Meet Our Guest Artist
Kai Hyde
Kai Hyde has spent more than 33 years preserving and sharing the art of authentic Niʻihau shell lei making.
Former owner of Hooked Gallery in Kamuela on Hawaiʻi Island, Kai is recognized as one of Hawaiʻi's foremost Niʻihau shell experts, restorers, appraisers, makers, and teachers. His work has been featured in magazines, television programs, museums, and collections around the world.
His passion began as a young boy after discovering his Tutu's treasured shell collection. Today, he continues to preserve this beautiful Hawaiian tradition by teaching others and inspiring a new generation to appreciate the artistry behind every shell.
