Snappy Birthday Surprise

I love my family.  As my kids have grown older it has become more difficult for us to spend time all together.  Therefore whenever the opportunity arises, I cherish every minute.

Usually we do our best to coordinate celebrating birthdays or other special occasions together.  Derek's birthday was this month but when we checked the calendar we realized that Jess was going to be away on a trip on his special day.  Rather than wait till she got back and celebrate after his birthday we decided to SURPRISE him early so we could all be together.

We told him that we had set aside that evening to take our family Christmas photo, since all our weekends were booked up till Christmas and we hadn't done a photo shoot yet!  We said that we'd just take a simple photo in the house in front of the tree or something.  That way he wouldn't be surprised to see both kids cars in the driveway when he got home.

Little did he know that inside the house we were decorating, blowing up balloons, preparing his favorite meal, setting up a movie and all dressed in matching plaid pjs.

The party was fun even before it started but that is because these kids are so wonderful and such a joy to have around.  Brett took full advantage of the opportunity to wear his plaid Green Bay Packer pjs in our Seattle SeaHawk loving house!

When Derek came through the door we were all hiding in the bathroom with balloons in hand just waiting to yell "surprise" and throw them in his direction.

I wish I had a picture of his reaction because he was genuinely surprised to see us all there and was super blessed that we took this time to plan this for him.  He immediatly went upstairs and put on the Pj's we had bought for him and came down to join the fun.

Since we had everything set up for our pretend family photo shoot, we decided to go ahead a snap some pictures of us that evening.

Since taking pictures was a part of this party, it made creating Derek's birthday card even easier because I knew EXACTLY what products to use.  I opened a pack of our Warmth and Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack and found the perfect plaid sheet to use on the front of the card.

For the sentiment I found great choices in the Hostess stamp set Pun Intended where I used the words Snappy Birthday on the inside of the card and the cute camera stamp on the front of the card.

The sentiment from Snappy Birthday with the camera and words, "You are Awesome" was a perfect choice!  That is because Derek was under the impression were were going to take a photo that evening, he just didn't know he'd be dressed in his pajamas in the picture!  One thing I love and appreciate about Derek is that he is ALWAYS such a good sport and joins in the fun no matter what crazy things we plan.

A great example of this was last year when we gave him a Darth Vador onesie for Christmas.  We knew he'd be sweltering hot in this onesie but that didn't stop him from joining the fun without complaint because complaining is something he just doesn't do.   I certainly am blessed to have a husband as wonderful as he is.

As it turned out we did get some really cute photos that evening.

So I decided to use one of them on our 2016 Christmas Card.

Since I spend most of the Fall teaching others to make Christmas Cards sometimes its hard to find the time to make cards of my own.  I've always liked sending photo cards so it is tempting to just print one at a photo shop.

However since we sell such fabulous products, I've found a way to take a 4 x 6 photo and do a simple photo card Stampin' Up! style.

First you print a 4 x 6 photo and layer it onto a 4 x 9 1/4 piece of card stock.  I used Basic Black as the base of my card.  Then you just create a simple stamped area using Stamps and other embellishments to make it complete.  I chose to use our Cable Knit Embossing folder because it matched the warm and coziness of us all being in our pajamas.  I also used the words Tidings of Comfort and Joy from the Christmas Pines stamp set because the words "Comfort and Joy" seemed to fit the theme of this card perfectly.  For the Holly Berry I used Red Glimmer Paper instead of a Jewel Rhinestone to make it easier for mailing purposes since that side of the card was already raised up with dimensionals.

I've found by using this format I can create quick and simple photo Christmas cards that display a photo but still allow me time to express my creativity with our fabulous Stampin' Up! products.  This size card also fits perfectly in a standard long envelope.

Derek was so blessed by this party that he even called me from work the next day to tell me how happy and honored he was by the time we had taken to surprise him.  It made me feel good to know that our Snappy Birthday plaid pajama party/movie night was a success and one that we will not soon forget.

October Stamp A Stack

Last week I hosted my monthly Stamp A Stack class.  Class was really full both on Saturday and Sunday and I really enjoyed sharing these cards with the wonderful ladies who attended the class.

Here are the cards we created.

The first card is one you've seen before.  Its a fall looking card created with the Vintage Leaves stamp set that I shared in a recent post about my Dad's birthday.

Everyone loved the Fall colors which were inspired by this cute new Starbucks Fall card.

This pattern could easily be repeated for the upcoming Holiday season by simply changing the stamp set.

At our recent Stamp Camp someone created this adorable gift card holder for our swap.  I was thrilled to receive such a cute project.   I wish I knew who to thank for giving this to me!   If anyone knows whose swap this was please let me know so I can give them credit.

I was so inspired by this swap that I made my own version as a part of this month class but I used  the stamp set Wrapped In Warmth to give it a different look.

This holder is made with one of our white Glassine bags that is folded in half and has a belly band wrapped around it.  You can add a gift card to either the front pocket or directly on card that is inserted in the pocket.

Project three was created to match my Stamped With Aloha logo and the new t-shirts I just created.  My logo combines Bermuda Bay and Wild Wasabi.  If you haven't seen my new shirt yet it says, "Be A Pineapple" on the front in Bermuda Bay and here is what the back looks like.

The shirts have been extremely popular so I will be printing some more soon and will have a place where you can purchase them right on this site.  Thanks so much to all of you who contacted me to tell me that you read my blog and were interested in a shirt before I even offered them.  I was really happy to talk with so many of you to try and accommodate your t-shirt requests.

So here is the card inspired by my logo.

First, I want to tell you that I cut my pineapple stamp in two pieces.  It makes it much easier to use when stamping a multi colored pineapple.  Next, I want to tell you that I discovered that the sentiments from the stamp set Designer Tin of Cards, matches the base of the pineapple perfectly.  So now you know of a great set to combine with your pineapple stamp to create a variety of cards.

My final card was my favorite.  It uses the Layering Circles Framelits.  I used the framelits to create a pumpkin pie out of Crumb Cake and Pumpkin Pie Card Stock.  After I glued the Pie together and shooked the edges with Chocolate Chip ink I then took a slice out of the pie with my paper snips.

The set I used is called Party with Cake which is a retired set but one that was really popular last year.  Normally the sentiment on this card would say, Its Time To Celebrate With Cake.  To omit the word "cake" I took a clean stamp, placed a piece of scotch tape over the word cake.  I inked up the stamp and removed the tape before stamping it which omits the word "cake".  The Party with Cake stamp set comes with a very cute sentiment for the inside of the card which works perfectly for Thanksgiving.
