Follow Your Art

Last month a small group of my Stamped With Aloha team attended Stampin’ Up!’s On Stage event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This is a trip I normally would have been on. It was hard not to go because Stampin’ Up! events are the best. Plus, I love to travel, especially when it gives me the opportunity to visit with my Stampin’ Up! friends.

When it was time for registration, I just felt as if I shouldn’t go this year. You see, my Dad has not been in the best health and I wanted to stay close in case he or my Mom needed me.

The decision not to go was hard but it turned out to be a very wise choice. You see while everyone was at On Stage, I began to not feel well physically. I wasn’t sure what was wrong, I just knew I was having some respiratory issues that were causing me to feel fatigued. It’s a long story, one that I plan to tell you more about in a future post. But for now, let me continue to tell you about On Stage.

One of the perks you get when you attend On Stage, is to see the new catalog first. You also get to see new products and have the opportunity to order some of them before anyone else. Since I wasn’t there, I didn’t get to enjoy these special perks this time.

Well, one of my sweet stampin’ sisters and friends who went to On Stage decided to send me a very special surprise. She ordered some new products and gifted them to me. Imagine my surprise when this box arrived and inside was products from our fabulous new Follow Your Art Suite! This special gift of aloha really lifted my spirits and brightened my day. My friend, had no idea that I wasn’t feeling well, so this gift was sent simply as a gift of love and aloha and for that I was truly grateful.

It took me a few days before I had the strength to stamp but this special gift motivated me to get into my studio and work on a Thank You card. Here is the card I created for my friend.

Follow Your Art Card

Follow Your Art Card

This Follow Your Art Suite is so fun. The stamp set “It Starts With Art” has super cute images and sentiments for the craft lovers at heart. The Designer Paper is bright and colorful and covered with adorable images.

This sentiment says, “You paint my world with happiness”. Happiness is certainly what I felt when I opened up this special gift. It was such an amazing and fun surprise and so timely too. I am thankful that my friend took the time to put together something that really lifted my spirits at a time when I really needed it.

The next time God puts someone on your heart it might just be a good time to do as my friend did. It doesn’t have to be by sending a special gift! Just respond by making a phone call, giving a hug, speaking words of encouragement, sending a card, etc. Just follow your “art” and let others know you were thinking of them and by doing so, they will know you care.

With Gratitude and Much Aloha,

Cindy

Mother In Love

When you think, "Mother In Law", what comes to mind?  If you know she's on her way over, do you rush to clean the house because you she'll be checking for dust with her white gloves on?  Perhaps you start to panic about what meal you will prepare, knowing that no matter what you do, she won't like it.   I know when it comes to "in laws" there are people who face challenging situations, but thank God that's not the case for me.

I love my Mother In Law so much.  Her name is Alvena.  My kids call her Grandma, My niece calls her "Grams".  My Son In Law calls her "Grandma Alvie", I think that my favorite name for her!!!

From the first day I met Alvena, at the YWAM base in Honolulu, I thought she was amazing!.   She's a licensed pastor, a powerful communicator, a great listener, an amazing counselor, a prayer warrior, a former school administrator, a small accounting business owner, an excellent cook and she's as cute as a button especially when standing next to her handsome hubby of 54 years!

When visiting her last month, I noticed these beautiful flowers on her front porch.

Alvena's Garden

These flowers inspired the birthday card I created for her this year.

I chose a stamp set that I hadn't worked with before called, Bouquet Blooms.  This set comes with coordinating framelits called Gatefold Blossoms.

Here is the card I made for Alvena.

I used the Gateway Blossoms framelit to cut out a floral pattern on both the top and bottom flap of this card.

Below, you can see where I attached a Granny Apple Green Card Stock to the top flap to cover the back of the die cut area.  This also became the place where I added a small Whisper White Card Stock and stamped the"Happy Birthday" sentiment from the set Blow Out The Candles.

I then layered on a bunch of bright flowers that I colored with Stampin' Blends.  I also added lots of basic Jewel Rhinestones, both clear and red.

The inspiration for the colors on this card, came from this floral Macy's Gift card that was hidden inside.

Over the years, Alvena has taught me many valuable life lessons and I have a lot to thank her for.  One thing I realized the other day is that as she was raising her boys, she was praying for their future spouses. That means when I was growing up, she was praying for me.  What an amazing blessing that is to know that!

I am also grateful to her for raising such an incredible son who has been my husband for 30 years this November!

Now that I am officially a Mother In Law, I hope that my kids will feel the same way about me as I do about Alvena.  I hope that like Alvena I will live my life to honor God, to love and serve others and to choose joy everyday.

Happy Birthday Mom!  We are all thankful, grateful and blessed to have you in our lives!

Thanks for being such an amazing Mother in LOVE!

Share What You Love

One of the benefits of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is the opportunity we have to get our hands on new product before it is released.  I recently purchased a bundle of new catalog products to share at a class I had last week.   Each of these cards were created with the Love What You Do stamp set, the gorgeous Share What You Love Designer Paper and the beautiful Lovely Floral Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

The first card I designed was this simple note card.  I purposely designed this card so that it could be created in a variety of colors that featured different pieces of the "Share What You Love" Designer Series Paper.  The bottom strip of solid card stock was embossed with the Lovely Floral embossing folder.

The "thank you" sentiment was stamped on a piece of white cardstock that was punched out with one of our newest punches called Tailored Tag.  It's hard to tell from this photo but the back two cards are shimmery because this card stock has many pieces that have a pearlized finish to them.

The next card also used a piece of the pearlized designer paper but it used both sides.  If you flip the floral designer paper on the left side of the card it will reveal the leafy green print that you see on the right side of the card.  This card shows a little more of the Lovely Floral embossing folder on the center strip of card stock on this card.  I used Stampin' Blends to color the flowers that I stamped close to the "Beautiful Day" sentiment.

This next card displays my favorite piece of Designer Paper in the Share What You Love Paper Stack.  I am glad that this particular specialty paper comes in a larger pack of 24 sheets and has four 12 x 12 sheets of each of these gorgeous designs.

I always share my favorite card last.  For this particular set of cards my favorite was this gift card holder created from a note card.  Here is what is looks like on the inside.

I cut the left side of the card at 2 inches from the bottom edge to the center fold of the card.  I then glued down the outside edges with Tear & Tape.  Since I didn't glue the inside edge it makes the perfect pocket to insert a gift card.

I think these new products were appropriately named because as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator I feel really do Love what I do.  I also feel really privileged that a part of my job is to SHARE what I love.  What a blessing!

After joining Stampin' Up! almost 20 years ago I quickly felt this way before I even knew our companies Statement of the heart which says:  "To Love what we do and Share what we love, as we help others enjoy creativity and worthwhile accomplishments, in this We make a Difference".

We live in a world filled with people who are in desperate need of encouragement and hope.  Whether you realize it or not you CAN make a difference in the way you love and share with others around you.   I hope that as you go through this day you will remember that you have the ability to bring real change.  So go out and Love what you do as you Share what you love.

Stamped Blessings,

Cindy

We Must Celebrate

Last night I went for a walk at the beach near my home.  It was a perfect night.  There were people enjoying their last minutes in the ocean before the sun set.  I saw tourists with sun kissed faces, dressed in their resort wear, heading to dinner.   It was great to see a lot of families there too, who had brought their dinner to the beach and were enjoying it with a gorgeous view!

Since this beach is so close to home it made me think, I need to come here more often at this time of the day!  The sunset was breathtaking!

I love living in Hawaii so much.  The beauty here inspires me daily.  I love mountains, palm trees, pineapples, beaches, tropical foliage and scented flowers.  Another thing I especially love about Hawaii is the people.  It is a blessing to live in a melting pot with so many beautiful people who represent so many different cultures.

Living in Hawaii and loving it so much has definitely influenced my stamping style.

"Do the Hula" is my favorite Stampin' Up! stamp set of all time.   It was a set that had a Vintage Hula Girl, a Surf Board, Hawaiian Flower and the word "Aloha" to name a few.  It was a sad day for me when this set retired, however, I didn't let that stop me from converting as many Stampin' Up! images as I could into island style cards!

I love Hula Girls.  Many of my friends dance hula and every time I watch them I am amazed the the beauty of it.  Since I love hula I am known to look for every opportunity to create hula girl cards. When I saw the little bear from  the stamp set "We Must Celebrate" I knew I had found the perfect candidate for my next hula girl card.

You may notice that the bear is surrounded and attached to three other adorable "critters".  Although these stamps are so cute all together I took some scissors and carefully separated them to make using them individually possible.

After separating the stamps, I was able to stamp the bear image three times to create a trio of Hula Dancing bears.

The bears were colored with our new fabulous Stampin Blends.  I textured the paper with a new embossing folder called Simple Stripes.  The jeweled flowers come from the Tree Builder punch that I used more than any other punch because I love the sweet little flower that it makes.

I used "punch art" to make the hula skirts.  They were made with just two punches.  The 3/4 circle punch and the 7/8 scallop circle punch.  Here are some photos to show how I created them.

I love the name of this stamp set, We Must Celebrate!  Although it's great to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. I was reminded yesterday to celebrate the blessing of life and the beauty that surrounds us.

I am grateful to live in a place where I am inspired everyday and certainly have a reason to Celebrate!
