Bunny Boxes

This week I hosted a Bunny Bunco Event. It was so much fun!!! I love all the love and laughter that fills my home when everyone comes over to play bunco and see some of my favorite Stampin’ Up! products. This month I featured our cute Mini Pizza Boxes. I showed how you can use them to quickly create some punch art bunny boxes for your Easter treats.

Would you like to know how to create this box?

The first thing you need to do is create the ears. Take 2 pieces of Thick Whisper White Card Stock and cut them at 1 1/2 x 5 1/2. Use the Detailed Trio Punch to round the top two corners. On the bottom of the ear, use a scoring tool to score at 1”. Put some adhesive below the one inch score line and glue the ears to the inside of the Mini Pizza Box. The inside of the ears measure 1 1/4 x 4 1/4. Round the top two corners and attach them to the Whisper White ears. For the whiskers, I took a 5 1/2 inch piece of Basic Gray card stock and cut tiny strips with a paper cutter. I then attached them to the middle of the box with a couple of Mini Glue Dots. The nose was made with a 3/4 inch circle punch and the eyes were made with the 1/2 inch circle punch. I used one of my favorite retired bow punches for the bow but you could certainly use an actual ribbon of any color, if you don’t have this punch.

I used the Pretty Label punch to create a tail for the back of the box. I stamped it with a sentiment from the adorable Fable Friends stamp set.

Fill these with paper shreds and the candy of your choice.

They make great favors and look super cute with their long ears and whiskers.

It was fun making these bunnies and I loved the expressions of all my guests when they saw them on display.

Speaking of expressions, I love Renee’s expression below. Bunny Bunco was a blast as you can see!!!

I got lots of positive comments from this group about these favors and hope you will enjoy them as much as they did. They are quick to make and sure to brighten the day of whomever you create them for.

Surf's Up!

My friend Alec celebrated his 50th birthday in January. Since Alec loves to surf, his wife Lynne threw a surf themed surprise party for him at Duke’s in Waikiki.

The Shimizu Family at Duke’s

Creating a card for Alec gave me the opportunity to dig into my retired stamps and use two oldies but goodies. I used Surf’s Up and Do the Hula to create this card.

Surf’s Up! Birthday Card

Surf’s Up! Birthday Card

The sand was created with Crumb Cake Card Stock that I ran through the Big Shot with the Sequins Textured Impressions Folder. After I ran the card stock through the Big Shot, I tore it with my hands so that the torn edge would look more like sand. I did two layers like this so I could position the surfboards in between the layers of “sand”. The large boards were made with the Surf’s Up stamp set and the small board with flowers on it comes from Do The Hula.

I textured the background to look like water using the Seaside Textured Impressions folder. The sentiment “surf’s up” comes from the retired Surf’s Up stamp set.

When you look inside the card you will see that this is actually a recordable card, another vintage Stampin’ Up! product. I just happen to have a few of these left over from many years ago.

I sang a funny version of the song “Surf” and recorded it inside Alec’s card. Alec has a funny memory from when he once heard this song, so I tried to recapture that moment to make him smile on his special day. When I played the card for Lynne she laughed and told me how much she knew Alec would love this card.

And as you can see, it did make him smile!!

In addition to stamping him this card, I also stamped some toppers for the party favors. The toppers looked like this.

The wave was from the retired set Surf’s Up and the sentiment “Life is Sweeter with Friends like you” comes from a current set called Detailed With Love.

My extremely gifted and talented friend Cindy of Zoe, Hawaii, created the most adorable Surf Board cookies! Here is how they looked after we added the hand stamped topper.

We didn’t eat cake at the party because we had Hula Pie instead. Hula pie is a yummy mud pie dessert that is a must have when you are at Duke’s.

Alec is like a brother to me. We have been really close friends for many years and I feel so grateful to have he and his family in my life. I know that he is not one to want a lot of attention so I think Lynne did a fabulous job planning a small intimate gathering of family and a few close friends to celebrate him on this very special birthday.

I captured this impromptu moment where Alec gave Lynne a big hug. I know he was really thankful for all the hard work she did to bless him on his special day.

I am glad that Alec celebrated his 50th birthday knowing how much he was loved and appreciated. It was a blessing to be a part of his special celebration.

Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

If you live in New York, “do you want to build a snowman” is a question that you could ask someone right now! However, snow was something I didn’t get to see when I was visiting the Big Apple last month.

On November 1st I had the opportunity to visit one of my favorite places, New York City. I especially love visiting New York in the Fall. Especially after the Bryant Park Winter Village is open. I love the festive atmosphere with cute shops and the smell of hot cider in the air.

We checked into our hotel in Times Square and enjoyed the view of all the colorful lights flashing below.

I traveled to New York with two of my downline and friends, Teresa and Zeny.

The weather was perfect, not too cold but cool enough that we had the opportunity to wear our hats, boots, scarves and warm jackets.

One of our first stops was Central Park. The park was so beautiful. We were so excited to see the leaves falling all around us. I’m sure if you get to see falling leaves all the time it is no big deal, but for us it was magical. The leaves were falling like snowflakes from the sky, it was amazing.

I bet we were the first people that our carriage driver met that got more excited about seeing squirrels and falling leaves than some of the famous landmarks in the park. Our driver would said, “This is where the movie Home Alone was filmed” and we would look at that spot and say, “Oh My Gosh Look At That Cute SQUIRREL”. He pointed to another section and said, “here is the famous statue of Balto, the Sled Dog and we would look up and say, “Oh yes, the statue is nice but just look at those LEAVES”, I think he thought we were strange until Teresa handed him a piece of Chocolate Macadamia nut candy and told him we were from Hawaii.

Since we arrived in the city the day after Halloween there were still plenty of places where we saw pumpkins on display.

Seeing these pumpkins reminded me of the paper pumpkins I had made for my Bunco in October.

For the past few years I’ve had a pumpkin theme at our October Bunco. Here is what I did for this years Aloha Prize.

My Paper Pumpkin

My Paper Pumpkin

I covered this paper pumpkin with strips of our Natures Poem Designer Series Paper using Mod Podge. I then used hot glue to add some leaves to the top.

For the Bunco Favors, I made these little pumpkins out of our Clear Tiny Treat Boxes.

Pumpkin Bunco Favors

Pumpkin Bunco Favors

To make these pumpkin favors, I just cut a piece of Pumpkin Pie Card Stock at 1 7/8 x 8 1/4, I ran it through my Big Shot using the Corrugated Dynamic Texture Impressions Embossing Folder and then placed it inside one of our Clear Tiny Treat boxes. I then cut 2, 2 x 2 pieces of Pumpkin Pie Card Stock for the top and bottom of the box. I only put glue dots on the top square as the rest of the card stock stayed in place when wrapped around the inside of the box. The bottom square just got pushed down to the bottom and didn’t require any adhesive. I used the Tailored Tag Punch and punched out a piece of our Wood Textures 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper and then cut the shape in half to form the top of the pumpkin that was embellished with one of our Leaves Trinkets.

Bunco was so much fun and I was honored that beautiful Roxanne, who was celebrating her birthday that day, came to Bunco with her Mom.

Well, by now, you are probably wondering, why did I title this post, “Do you want to build a snowman” when I am taking about New York, Squirrels, Pumpkins, Falling Leaves and Bunco???

I’ll get to the snowmen… eventually, but first, let me explain!

Over the past couple of weeks I have had not one but two opportunities to hear that famous “snowman” song from the movie Frozen.

While in New York I went to watch Frozen on Broadway.

Frozen on Broadway

Frozen on Broadway

It was a fabulous show and it was so sweet to see all the kids in the audience attending their first Broadway show. Teresa (pictured below) was at her very first Broadway show. As you can see from the look on Teresa and Zeny’s face, we were all really excited to be there.

Teresa and Zeny at Frozen

After New York we went to Orlando, Florida for the Stampin’ Up! On Stage Event. It was there while at a special leadership event called CenterStage that I got to go on the Frozen ride at Disney’s Epcot Theme Park with there lovely ladies.

Kim, Andrea, Cheryl and Cindy at Epcot

Kim, Andrea, Cheryl and Cindy at Epcot

The ride was cute but the real fun was all the sharing we did while waiting in line. This particular day the sharing was very timely where one of us got the message to let go of something that had been troubling them. It was quite funny to be having a conversation about “letting go” of something while in line to go on a ride where we would hear the song, “LET IT GO” be performed over and over again!. Sounds like CONFIRMATION to me!!!

So, with all of this “Frozen” influence and exposure, the first thing I did when I got back to my stamp room was to build this cute little snowman treat box.

Snowman Tiny Treat Box

Snowman Tiny Treat Box

I created this in the same way as I did the little pumpkin one except I didn’t crimp the inside paper, I scored it instead. . I also didn’t put a top or bottom 2” piece because the knit hat covered up the top and I left the bottom open. Here are the dimensions.

The nose was made out of our new Sprig punch. The cheeks were made with our Stampin’ Blends and the eyes and mouth were made out of Black Jewel rhinestones.

Snowman Tiny Treat Boxes

Aren’t the little stocking hats cute? I found them at Target in Orlando, they only had 12 and I took them all. I wish I could have found more as they were the perfect size for our little treat boxes.

Snowman Tiny Treat Box

The back of the box was stamped with an image from the Take Out Treats Stamp set. Inside I placed these soft peppermint candies.

I love how this cute little box came out. You can use it as party favor and then after the candy is gone you can hang it on your tree as a cute little snowman ornament.

I made these for our Home for the Holidays craft fair which was last week. I had to keep one for myself since I collect snowman and have a tree that holds all my snowman ornaments and I fell in love with this cute little guy!

Just days after leaving New York, it started to snow. I’m sorry we didn’t get to see the snow because I know we would have loved to have been able to build an actual snowman! I think we probably would have had a hard time with the cooler temperature. Especially since on our last day in Florida it dipped down to 55 degrees and we were FREEZING!

November is always a favorite month for me because I love the focus on being Thankful. I am grateful to God for the blessing of being able to travel as much as He has allowed me to do.

I am also grateful that while In New York I not only enjoyed the colorful leaves but it was most special to …

have another opportunity to visit my big brother who has lived there since I was in Junior High School. He is one of my favorite persons in the world and someone I am truly thankful for.

So whether is be pumpkins, falling leaves, squirrels, traveling, snowmen, broadway shows, disney rides, fun with friends or family! I realize I have lots to be thankful for this holiday season. God is so good.

Kalani and Joyce's Special Day

December 2017 has been a month of momentous occasions in our family.  At the start of the month we celebrated Kalani and Joyce's wedding at an estate in Waialua.  The next day I went with Jessica to order her wedding gown for her 2018 wedding.  A few days later we had a surprise party to celebrate Derek's 50th birthday.  On top of all of that we've had company in town and Christmas to prepare for.  It has certainly been a blessed month filled with lots of love and exciting things.

Many of you have asked to see photos from the wedding.  So today I will share some highlights from their special day.

For me, the day began at home where I was blessed to have a hair and make up appointment with Racyne of Sassarella.  It was wonderful to spend the morning with her.  She made me feel so relaxed and we had a great conversation while she worked.  I got lots of compliments on my hair and make up and highly recommend her for any special events you may have coming up.

We arrived at the venue a little early to see if there was anything we could do to help.   Kalani and Joyce had everything so well organized that there was not much that needed to be done.  So we checked in with the handsome groom whom we found looking pretty relaxed himself on his special day!

Cindy and Kalani

We had a nice visit with him.  It is hard for me to believe that he has grown up and matured so much especially this past year.  Derek and I are very proud of him.

Cindy, Karin and Lynne

As some of Kalani's "Aunties" began to arrive, we had an opportunity to sit inside this gorgeous venue and visit.  It was hard to believe that this day was finally here.

Joyce's mom arrived looking absolutely stunning.  I loved her dress.  We took a photo in the house by this beautiful tree that was sitting on top of a white baby grand piano..

My in-laws came all the way from Washington State, I was so glad they were able to attend as many of our mainland relatives were unable to.  They are real prayer warriors who have spent a lot of time on their knees in prayer for the future generations of the family, we are truly grateful for them.

Jessica and "Baba"

We weren't sure if my Dad would be able to make it to Waialua but with the help of my brother who was in town for the wedding, he was able attend.  Since my Dad suffers from dementia he doesn't say much but it always makes me smile when he "lights" up as he did when he saw his granddaughter Jessica all dressed up in her bridesmaid gown.   I was so thankful he could be there.  I know that meant a lot to Kalani who is especially close to him.

The reception was a lot of fun.  We had dinner under the stars and then there was dancing and opportunities to take fun photos by this lighted backdrop Kalani and Joyce had made.

We took a photo with these amazing friends who we "do life" with.  It was fun to be together for another momentous occasion especially when everyone was looking so "snazzy".

Our family is growing and we couldn't be more happy.  We love our kids and are so thankful for the amazing spouses God has brought into their lives.

For my Christmas card this year I took this photo and mounted it on a 4 x 9 1/4 piece of whisper white card stock.  I've made my past few Christmas Cards this way.  That way you can just mount your favorite 4 x 6 photo to one side and decorate a small panel on the side with your favorite Stampin' Up! products.

I did these cards with both silver and gold foil snowflakes.  Based on what color snowflake I used, I alternated the metallic foil color so gold and silver would be represented on each card.

At the end of the wedding everyone left with a cookie favor that was created by Cindy Ontai of Zoe, Hawaii.  Cindy's cookies not only look beautiful but they taste absolutely amazing!!!

I am truly grateful to the Lord for blessing Kalani and Joyce with a perfect day from start to finish.   I hope you enjoyed hearing a little bit about their wedding but know what's even better?  Here is a fun video put together by Aria Studios that shows you highlights from their special day.

With all of the health challenges I faced this year it makes me appreciate even more the special times such as this and the blessing of just being able to be there.

I am truly grateful to the Lord for our growing family.  We welcome not only Joyce but in just a few more months we will officially welcome Brett too.

Love certainly is in the air in this season.   I am grateful to God, who is LOVE, for blessing Kalani and Joyce with such a special day.  I hope it will be one that they will always look back to with fondness and joy!

Congratulations Kalani and Joyce Baughman!  We love you.
