"Brusho-ed" Blessings!

At our March Inspiration Night we were blessed to have a very special guest, my very sweet friend Lynsay Mahon.  As you may know from my previous post, Lynsay and her daughter were here during Spring Break.  The timing of Lynsay's visit was perfect because I had my monthly downline Inspiration Night scheduled during the time she was here.  That meant that all my downline and stamping sisters could have an opportunity to be inspired and learn from the best.

Lynsay opened by sharing her Stampin' Up! story.   It was fun to hear about the first workshop she hosted for her Mom.  Lynsay did it as a favor to her Mom but really had no interest in stamping! After having the opportunity to see the products and spend time looking through the catalog, she decided to join!  Her Mom was surprised and delighted to have her daughter as a new recruit.

Lynsay set goals early and created a plan to really work the business.  With much hard work on her part she rose to be the number one demonstrator in Canada on more than one occasion.  Lynsay has also earned many other top honors, awards and incentive trips throughout the 15 years she has been with Stampin' Up!

Lynsay is such an excellent speaker.  We were all inspired by what she shared about the Stampin' Up! experience.

After she shared Lynsay began to lead us in a technique class that featured Brusho.  Brusho is one of our newest products, it is watercolor crystals.  Lynsay showed us how to use it in many different ways.

Here are the projects Lynsay shared with us.

Brusho Projects - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Brusho Projects - www.stampedwithaloha.com

When you use the Brusho Watercolor Crystals on your projects, it is fun to watch the color burst and come alive when you activate them with water,

Let me share with you a closer look at the Brusho techniques Lynsay taught us.

For card number one we took a Thank You stamp from the "Thankful Thoughts" stamp set and stamped it on a piece of Shimmery White Card Stock using a Black Archival stamp pad.  We then took the Blue Brusho and sprinkled it around the stamped words.  To make the Brush spread we spritzed water on top and then watched the magic happen.  The colors spread in a random pattern.  If you don't like the color, you can add more.  If it didn't spread enough, just add more water.

Thankful Thoughts Brusho Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

If you don't like the pattern, you can even use an aqua painter to move the color around.

Each card will come out looking unique and different.  Since Perfect White accents were the featured embellishment of the night we added a few on each project.

It's important to let the card stock dry before adhering it  You can either let it dry naturally or use a heat tool to speed up the process.  If the card stock curls because it was saturated with a lot of water then after it dries use Tear N Tape to the back to stick it down.

For the next project we stamped a heart from the "Sure Do Love You" stamp set.  We then sprinkled a line of red Brusho crystals across the top of the Shimmery White Card Stock.  We carefully placed a wet baby wipe over the crystals and then dragged the color across the card to create the look below.

Project number three was made with our Shimmery Embossing Paste.  We took one of our decorative masks and laid it over the corner of the shimmery card stock.  Then we took a pallet knife and spread a thin layer of embossing paste over the mask.  We removed and cleaned the mask right away so that the quick drying paste would not be permanently stuck to the mask. Then we sprinkled some Brusho over the embossed area and sprayed it with water the same way we did on the first card.

I think it came out beautiful, don't you?

The final project was this cute lemonade holder.

For this project Lynsay showed how you can use brusho to create colorful sheets of paper by combining colors and spritzing them with water.  You can also use an aqua painter to make a unique design with the crystals as you brush them around the card stock.  After the paper dries you have uniquely colored card stock that you can use with your punches.  I just love the little speckles that are on the leaves that give them character.

We used the Lemon Builder Punch to create this cute lemon that is the focal point of this fun project.

There was so much positive feedback this month I definitely want to find a way to have Lynsay come back and share with us again in the future.

As I drove Lynsay to the airport later that evening she told me how blessed I was to have such lovely ladies on my team.  I am glad she witnessed first hand all of the aloha we share when we are together.

My Inspiration

Yesterday my friend Lynsay celebrated her birthday.  Lynsay lives all the way in Canada but thanks to our sisterhood as Stampin' Up! demonstrators we have had many opportunities to meet together and hang out in some amazing places all over the world.

Now when I say "hang out" I literally mean it!  Here is us rock climbing on a mountain in Utah giving each other a high five.

Even though I'm a very slow hiker, we've "hung out" on trails together.

This one (pictured below) was in Southern Utah.  This is one of those moments when I needed to catch my breath and Lynsay who could hear me breathing heavy would graciously say something like, "Hey, let's stop here to take a photo".  What a thoughtful friend!

Lynsay was also the one who invited me to hike the Tour Du Mont Blanc in Italy, France and Switzerland last summer.  This trip will forever be one of the highlights of my life because it was so special.

Lynsay has been such a great support to me as I've been battling breast cancer.  The day after I was diagnosed a package arrived in the mail.  I am very aware that packages from Canada take a couple of weeks but somehow Lynsay knew I could use some cheering up and her package and beautiful card arrived at the perfect moment.  Here is the card she sent me.

Lovely Friends Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Lynsay has been such an inspiration to me in so many ways.  Her phone calls and messages always filled with encouragement, love, and positivity have helped me so much!

Since Lynsay's birthday was coming I wanted to get a card in the mail to her.  I have been experiencing some fatigue lately so I haven't been in my stamp room a lot.  When I went out there to stamp Lynsay's card I kind of felt like I didn't know where to begin.  I glanced over to a display of cards people have sent me and I saw Lynsay's card.   I pulled it from my display board and used it as my inspiration and guide.

I looked for a set with a big bold birthday greeting and found this one from Big On Birthdays.

I followed Lynsay's color scheme and design by adding some Lemon Lime Twist Diagonal lines from the Work of Art Stamp set over the bold birthday greeting.  Instead of a berry colored flower, I stamped a heart from the Work of Art stamp set and popped it up on the top right corner of the card.

Once I began to use Lynsay's card as my inspiration,  my stamping went much smoother!  I was able to put together her card really quickly because I had such a beautiful card to inspire and guide me.

It's a high possibility that Lynsay will see her card here on my blog before it arrives in Canada but either way I hope she will realize what an inspiration she is to me and how grateful I am to have the opportunity to share adventures with her.

Always An Adventure

This week my friend Lynsay is celebrating a milestone birthday.

Lynsay and I met for the first time on a Stampin' Up! cruise where we both went to an afternoon tea on board the ship.  Kim Williams and I attended the tea and noticed Lynsay and her husband Bruce who were first time Cruise attendees.  We introduced ourselves to them and had an enjoyable tea time together.  Kim and I felt good after we walked away thinking we had done a good deed reaching out to this sweet new demonstrator from Canada who probably didn't know a lot of people on board the ship.

It was a few months after that at a Stampin' Up! convention that Kim and I were at awards night together.  As the awards were given out we saw our sweet new friend Lynsay march across the stage MULTIPLE times to receive many top demonstrator awards.  Wow, not only was she sweet but incredibly talented and obviously a strong business woman.  We were amazed at her accomplishments and regretted not asking HER more business questions at the tea!

Over the years Lynsay and I got to become close friends at Founder's Circle (a gathering of the top Stampin' Up! demonstrators) which was usually held in St. George, Utah.  Before Lynsay attended Founder's Circle, when I was honored to attend this exclusive retreat, I would spend my free time shopping or by the pool.

However,  after I met and got to know Lynsay and her friend Meg my life significantly changed as they invited me to go on the most amazing outdoor adventures that I have since hash tagged, #adventureswithmegandlynsay.

I remember on one of my first trips out with them they took me shopping for gear and at that time this was my idea of the perfect hiking boot.

Each year I would grow more passionate about the outdoors.  I discovered that I LOVED rock climbing and couldn't wait for an opportunity to go.  I would often go on more than one climbing trips while in St. George.

Lynsays adventurous spirit was contagious and I was hooked.  Over the years we enjoyed many crazy experiences together in the great outdoors.  It was fun to share these adventures not only with Lynsay but with Meg and Georgia and so many other amazing friends who joined in on the fun.

Last year was the final Founders Circle as Stampin' Up! was no longer going to host this event.  I will never forget the fun we had hiking, climbing and scrambling that day.  We even got to rappel off of an arch.  The day was filled with fun and laughter until we realized that this was going to be the final time we might do this for awhile.  We hugged on the mountain and the tears fell.  In between sobs,  I asked our guide Todd, "have you ever had a group of women crying out here like this before" and Todd replied, "well, usually if there's is crying it happens BEFORE the climb and not after".  We all laughed and then I snapped this quick picture so we'd never forget this moment and the bond that we shared..

I left that trip not knowing when I'd get to see Lynsay again but was so excited to find out that she and her family would be coming to Maui.  Derek and I flew over for a long weekend and we got to spend time with Lynsay and her family on that beautiful island.

Just a short time after that we traveled to the Meditteranean with Stampin Up!    That was fun because it gave our husbands an opportunity to hang out and Lynsay's daughters quickly dubbed their friendship a "Bru-mance" because Derek and Bruce really seemed to enjoy each others company.

We had such a great time traveling through France, Italy and Spain together.  It was a trip I will never forget where we made many memories to last a lifetime.

Working out on the ship together was great as Lynsay showed me her weight lifting routine and I did my best to follow her lead.

We also shared many adventures searching for Gelato and Espresso.  We even jumped off a train together when we spotted one of our new favorite places for both of those treats.

It was while we were hanging out on the trip that Lynsay and Bruce invited us to accompany them on the Tour Du Mont Blanc.  A hike that they were going on in July in France, Switzerland and Italy.  It seemed like an impossibility at first but the more we talked about it and looked into it, it quickly became a reality.

Lynsay had explained the trip to me like this.... "it will be wonderful, you hike through alpine villages, eat 3 course french meals, enjoy sipping espressos in mountain huts and a luggage service carries your bags from hotel to hotel where you sleep".  Just hanging out with them sounded fun but with all of that other stuff, it sounded amazing so we agreed to go.  It wasn't until we got there that I started to realize what we had actually signed up for.

Here is how Wikipedia describes it.

The Tour du Mont Blanc or TMB is one of the most popular long-distance walks in Europe. It circles Mont Blanc, covering a distance of roughly 170 kilometres (110 mi) with 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) of ascent/descent and passes through parts of Switzerland, Italy and France.

It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.  It was also the most rewarding and amazing thing I've done in my life.  I can't even begin to write about it because was so magnificent.  I'm sure as you follow my blog you'll hear me refer to this experience from time to time but for today let me just share a few of my favorite photos of time spent with Lynsay on this incredible adventure.

So as you can see, my life has become incredibly more adventurous and blessed since getting to know Lynsay and her family!

So to bless my adventurous friend on her milestone birthday I wanted to make something that would represent the great outdoors that she is so passionate about and has helped me to love.

Here is the card I made with her in mind.

This was made with the new set Always an Adventure that comes in a bundle with these awesome framelits that you can create snow capped mountains and beautiful forests.  The words come from the set Cottage Greetings which also includes a Happy Birthday stamp that I used on the inside.

Since we just were hiking through the snow in the mountains I felt like this would be the perfect set to honor Lynsay on her special day and remind her of the fun adventures we've shared together.

I am so blessed to know her.  Lynsay has been such an encouragement not just to me but to Derek too and we are eternally grateful to God for blessing our lives with amazing adventurous friends like Bruce and Lynsay.

Lynsay's Gift

In my last post I shared some Fresh Fruit and Flower cards created by Kim Williams that featured the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper.   I was really inspired by these projects and purchased a pack of the Designer Paper to create some projects of my own.

Prior to leaving for my adventure with Lynsay,  I went and bought something I thought might be useful for our hike.  This packet of oils of aloha lip balm comes in fruit flavors such as strawberry guava and coconut so I thought using the Fruit Stand Designer Paper to package this gift would be the perfect choice.

So just a couple nights prior to leaving to meet Lynsay, I began to work on the packaging for these lip balms (pictured below)

www.stampedwithaloha.com

I placed them on my grid paper trying to see if I could come up with a box.  Creating box templates is not my specialty but my friend Lori Nasu is an amazing, amazing, amazing template master.  Lori is like stamping Royalty when it comes to making boxes.  In my mind she is the stamping box making QUEEN.

As I struggled to create the perfect box for my friend Lynsay I thought of her highness Lori and thought I'd text her to see if she could help.  After I sent the text I looked at the time and realized it was almost 2am so surely I'd have to wait until morning to hear from her.  To my surprise, just minutes later she texted back.  Like me she was up late being creative and she said she'd be happy to help.  Normally when she helps me create a pattern, she is in my stamp room, so this was new territory asking for her to create a template over the phone.

Lori asked for me to send her photos of the project.  I sent her the photo above of the lip balm on my grid sheet and this photo below of a side view.

www.stampedwithaloha.com

The photos weren't that clear but may I remind you that Lori is the template QUEEN so literally within MINUTES I got a text message with all the dimensions and instructions to create a Fold Over Box for my friend Lynsay.  I followed Lori's measurements and in just a couple of minutes I created this.

www.stampedwithaloha.com

It was an absolute PERFECT fit and another example of Loris genius master template making skills at work!  Now do you see what I think she is the Stamping Box Making Queen?

Once the box was made I did the decorating with the new Fruit Stand Designer Paper.  I chose my favorite pattern of the bunch for one of my favorite friends Lynsay and this is how the project turned out.

www.stampedwithaloha.com

The DSP is so colorful and pretty.  I added a sentiment from the Scenic Sayings Stamp set as well as some coordinating punched flowers.  Here is another look at the box so you can see it better.

www.stampedwithaloha.com

I was really pleased with the outcome of this box so I decided to make a small note card to go with it.  This was easy.  I used a Whisper White note card and basically duplicated the same design to create a coordinating card.

www.stampedwithaloha.com

And since I was going to hand deliver this card and gift I went ahead and made the envelope fancy too.

www.stampedwithaloha.com

Gift giving is one of my love languages.  I love it how Stampin' Up! products allow me to take something as simple as a packet of Lip Balm and make it into a colorful, beautiful gift of aloha.

If you are interested in recreating the box.  Here are some instructions that Lori sent me.

Single Piece Fold Over Favor Box

Card Stock Size: 4-5/8” X 11-1/4”.

Score the short side at 3/4” on either side. Score the long side at 3/4”, 5-1/4”, 6”, & 10-1/2”.

Cut on score lines on both long sides up until the horizontal lines creating the sides of the box. Crease inward.

Add Tear & Tape Adhesive to all four small corner flaps on the right side of the box.

Before putting box together, punch a small half circle with a 3/4” circle punch on one of the short sides centering it. This will be your cover.

Fold those corners inside and attach to larger flaps. The side you do first will be the bottom of the box without the punched out half circle.

Fold the top over your completed bottom and attach the flaps so that they are snug on the box. Embellish as desired!

I had the hotel put this gift on Lynsey's pillow on the day she arrived so she would have a small surprise "pillow gift" that was stamped with aloha and designed by a Queen.

Thank you Lori Nasu for sharing your amazing gift of template making with me so I could create this gift for Lynsay and also for allowing me to post it on my blog so I could then share it to inspire others.
