Smitten Celebration

The past two weeks have been filled with so much excitement and adventure.  I am not quite sure where to begin.  When I wrote last I was in Utah at the On Stage Convention which was an amazing event.  That trip was followed by a girls getaway to one of my favorite cities, New York.  I have lots of things to share about both of these adventures but for today, let me start at the beginning with my team kick off party in Salt Lake City.

Every time I attend a large Stampin' Up! event, I host a themed Kick off party for my downline.  This year I partnered with my two friends Kim and Linda and we all invited our downline to share a special "breakfast" party with a Mitten theme.   Our Warm and Fuzzy celebration featured the stamp set SMITTEN and we asked each guest to come wearing their favorite scarf.

This year there were 5 of us from my Stamped With Aloha team who gathered together in Salt Lake.  Some of these ladies live in the mainland so it is always a blessing to have this special time with them.

In this photo you can see a mitten banner I made as a centerpiece for the party.  This banner was created with the Smitten stamp set and coordinating framelits.  The mittens are double sided so when this was hung in the middle of our table, it looked beautiful from both sides.

Kim, Linda and I all took part in creating projects for our team party.  Linda made these adorable Smitten bag tags that were personalized on the back with each persons name.

The cute Santa tag pictured below Linda's was a surprise blessing from Kathy.

It was very thoughtful of Kathy to bless everyone with an unexpected gift.  These tags were given to several people Kathy had never met before but when we gather as demonstrators its always an opportunity to meet people who will become lifelong friends.

Kim made these adorable hot cocoa jars.  They were created with mini mason jars that had been filled with hot chocolate and mini marshmallows.  I love these tiny red mittens that coordinated with the red and white mittens that were at each persons place setting.

At the start of the party, we played an ice breaker game that gave us all an opportunity to get to know each other a little more.

We also played the game Left, Right, Center with snowflakes. Our prize was an oven mitt that was filled with Stampin' Up! product.

We surprised everyone at the party by having Zeny share a special hula.

It's not everyday that you have a real hula girl with over 30 years experience in your midst!  We were all blessed as she shared her beautiful gift of dance.

One of the highlights of our party was our themed swap.  Here is the card I made, which is also a part of my Stamp A Stack class this month.

This simple card shows two beautiful embossing folders, the snowflake is from our new Winter Wonder Textured Impressions folder and the red sweater impression is from our Cable Knit 3D Dynamic Impressions folder.  It's hard to tell from the photo but there is a silver foil circle behind the red starburst circle.  The white snowflake was also impressed on glossy card stock so it created added shine to this warm and fuzzy greeting card.

I created a mini clear treat box to match my swap to give as a gift to my downline.  Each year I give them a charm to commemorate the event.  At this years gathering they received a mitten charm.

I hope when they wear it they will remember the Warm and Fuzzy Celebration we shared together and that it will bring a smile to their face.

Just thinking about this event and the friends who were a part of it, makes me smile today.   I feel so blessed that God has allowed me to be a part of such an amazing company where I have the opportunity to be surrounded by such loving people who so freely share their gifts of inspiration and creativity.

Plans are already in the works for our 30th anniversary party in Orlando next November.   I look forward to another fun celebration with my amazing stamping sisters who have become lifelong friends!

Pink Pineapple Blessing

One day while shopping at the mall this Christmas season, I came across a beautiful pink pineapple ornament and immedeiatly thought of my friend, Kim Williams.  She loves Pink Pineapples and even named her blog Pink Pineapple Paper Crafts.  I knew I had to get this ornament for Kim and since her birthday is just a few days before Christmas.  So I decided to make her a small gift that was inspired by the ornament I found.

I used our Stampin' Up! pineapple stamp to create this artwork for Kim.  Did you know that if you have a good pair of scissors you can cut that stamp in half to make using it easier.  That way you can ink up the pineapple base and crown in separate colors and stamp them both at the same time without having to clean the stamp.... easy peasy!

Kim LOVES Bling.  Besides our love of pineapples, we actually share that in common, too... but if you look at her jewelry collection, I think Kim takes it up a notch compared to me with all her beautiful sparkly treasures.  Since I know she loves Bling, I wanted to make this Pineapple as sparkly as possible, so I added almost 40 jewel rhinestones in various sizes that I colored with a pastel pink sharpie pen.

Do you like the Designer Series Paper I layered this gift on?  Well, it's new and it will be one of the items you can choose free with a $50 order during our upcoming saleabration.  Its called Inside the Lines (item #143830).  I JUST love it.  It will be fun to color for those like myself who LOVE to color but it also works great just as it is and it provided a great background for this jeweled pink pineapple.

For the sentiment I used the set Flourishing Phrases because it reflected so well how I feel about Kim.  God certainly did brighten up the world when he made her because she is such a beautiful person who just sparkles with love and I am so blessed to call her my friend.

The one thing I really like about the finished project is the frame itself.  It is mirrored so that when Kim passes by it she can see a reflection of herself and remember how special she is.

Speaking of special, Kim and I were both surprised to see that on the back cover of our newest Occasions catalog there is a photo of she and I.  When my catalog arrived, it was the most fun surprise to see that we were there on a page that is dedicated to sharing about friendship as one the benefits of becoming a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.

As I look at this photo of us in the middle of the page I am reminded that one of the greatest blessings of becoming a Stampin' Up! demonstrator 17 years ago was the blessing of meeting special friends, many who have become family to me like Kim has.  I am truly grateful for the $99 investment that not only enriched my life by providing me a job opportunity that I love but it gave me the opportunity to make amazing friends like Kim along the way.  People who truly have made a difference in my life.

Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to you Kimberly Joy!  I hope you know how grateful I am for the blessing of your continual love and friendship.

Fresh Fruit and Flowers

In May our friends Bruce and Lynsey invited us to accompany them on a trip to Chamonix, France to go on a week long hike called the Tour du Mont Blanc.  Since we were with them in Europe at the time on a Stampin' Up! Grand Vacation that took us to Spain, France and Italy, we never dreamed that we would be able to return to France so soon.

However, miraculously thing worked out and we were able to travel with them to accomplish this bucket list adventure where we will hike in the Alps through Switzerland, France and Italy.

We arrived in Geneva, Switzerland and the first thing I noticed at the airport was this beautiful flower shop with all these colorful flowers.

Just across from the Flower shop was this pastiery shop where I couldn't pass without taking a photo of these amazingly beautiful sweet treats.

These beautiful treats reminded me of some beautiful creations my friend Kim Williams had recently stamped.  Kim was a presenter at our On Stage event a few months ago and Kims presentation featured some amazing cards that she created with a brand new stamp set called Fresh Fruits.

The stamp set is great and has gorgeous coordinating card stock called Fruit Stand that is featured on all of Kim's cards.  Kim inspired me to use this set and paper to create a gift for Lynsay to thank her for telling us about Chamonix and for inviting us on this adventure with her.  I'll share that project in my next post but until then I have asked Kim if I could feature her projects in todays blog post so you could see first hand what beautiful creations you can make with the Fresh Fruits stamp set and coordinating Fruit Stand Designer Paper.

Which is the stamp?  Which is the paper?  In this card the way that Kim placed the stamps it almost appears to be a sheet of colorful paper but the only Designer Paper on this card is a small striped strip on the left edge.  In this sample Kim masked an area of the card by placing a thin piece of scrap paper and then stamping over it.  When she removes the paper there is an unstamped strip of watercolor paper exposed that a perfect focal point for her greeting.

This is the same masking technique Kim uses on this strawberry card.

However in this sample she simply uses the Designer Paper to create a little banner accent which is embellished with a jeweled rhinestone

These strawberries look good enough to eat.  Here are a couple more Strawberry card samples..

Again, I can hardly tell if this background was made with Designer Paper or the stamp.  If you like to create colorful and delicious back grounds then this is the set for you.  I like how Kim used the Designer Paper to stamp her greeting and even lined up her Happy Birthday right across the striped paper, using it just like a piece of notebook paper.

This sample below shows more of the strawberry Designer Paper and shows a cool embossing technique on the stamped strawberries that are featured in a punched out circle focal point.  Kim embosses the entire circle to give it a highlighted shiny finish.

This next card featuring the peaches uses the same embossing technique plus adds some colorful washi tape and a larger piece of the beautiful peach accented Designer Paper that is really colorful and pretty.

I also love the sentiment on this card, "I'm here for you".  This is something that Kim definitely has shown to me time and time again.  She is a loving friend to so many and gives so much to show others how she unselfishly loves and cares for them.

This final fruit sample also shows the embossed stamped fruit focal point but this time it features the pear.  This card shows not only one side of the pear designer paper but also the reverse side which has polka dots and the card is finished off with a piece of our new in color ribbon.

The other day after spending an amazing day in the mountains we were cold and stopped to get a cappuccino at a cafeteria in the mountains.

This was a little more than just the cappuccinos that were ordered but Delicious and Beautiful, just like Kim's fruit cards.

Did you know you can also create flower cards with this set too?

Here is a simple sample of a flower card that Kim made that uses the same masking technique as the first card I shared.  Its so great that the Fresh Fruit set has such versatility that you can create cards that feature Fresh Fruits and Flowers!

Speaking of flowers, they are absolutely beautiful here.   Chamonix is an absolutely breathtaking colorful place.  We fell in love with it just minutes after walking through the town center.  The bright and colorful flowers are so vibrant in contrast to the beautiful, glistening snow capped mountains.

I feel so honored and blessed to have been able to experience this place.  I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Lynsey so again, in my next post you will see how I used the Fruit Stand Designer Paper to create a small gift with her in mind.

Until then I just want to say a special mahalo to my friend and featured guest artist Kim Williams for sharing all these fabulous Fresh Fruit and Flower projects that coordinated so well with my early adventures in Chamonix, France.

Thank you so much Kim for being a featured guest artisan on my blog this week and for sharing these Fresh Fruit and Flower creations.  I wish I could thank you by sending a box of these adorable cookies I saw in Switzerland.
