April Stamp A Stack

As I sit here to share today's blog entry I can here the sounds of drills and hammers nearby as my stamp room is being renovated.  I will take photos during the construction and share updates with you when the job is completed.  Until then, I have lots to share with you from classes and events that took place at the end of April.

My April stamp a stack was really fun this month.  I was excited to teach how to make these four cards.

This first card is a friendship card.  I created this card for Krista who was one of my best friends from High School.  Krista was on Oahu last month and just happened to be staying at a resort just a few minutes from my house.   I was so excited to see her because we hadn't seen each other in over 25 years.

When we said our goodbyes in High School we vowed that we would get together every few years and sadly that didn't happen as we hoped it would.

However, the mark of true friendship is that when we did get together 25 years later, we just picked up where we left off and it was wonderful to be together again!

This first card in my stack is the card I made and gave to Krista when she was here.  I am thankful that our friendship has lasted for so many years.

This card was created with the hostess set called Love You Lots and the Occasions catalog set Window Shopping.  I colored the hedgehogs with the Watercolor pencils and a blender pen.

The next card is very similar to the card I made for my Mom's birthday.  I just changed the colors and simplified it a bit so it would be appropriate as a stamp a stack card.

I sure love this stamp set, Jar of Love.  I am glad it is not retiring and will be available in our new catalog.

Card number three was created with the Swan Lake stamp set and it has such a sweet message.  It reads, "Wherever you go today....."

"may happiness follow".  That is such a beautiful sentiment to share with others!

Speaking of happiness there was plenty of that at our April stamp a stack.

Roxanne made an extra set of cards because she wanted to share some happy cards with her friends and loved ones.

Goldie shared her precious baby with me which always makes me happy!!!

And speaking of precious things that brings me to my last card.  This final card was designed by my downline and friend Jodi Hashimoto.  Jodi is uber talented at making cute things.  When I saw this card it made me think of little Andrew.  I told Jodi although it was a lot of work I was going to prep the pieces so that I could teach everyone to make this adorable punch art card.  Are you ready to see it?

Punch Art Shave Ice Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Doesn't this card just make you smile and want to eat a rainbow shave ice?  For those of you who love punch art here are the punches I used to create Jodi's card.

The head was made with crumb cake card stock and punched with a 1 1/2 circle punch.  The hair was made with basic black card stock and punched out with the 1 1/2 circle punch and then I used some paper snips to create bangs.  The face was stamped with Playful Pals stamp set and the cheeks were stamped with a pencil eraser and pink pirouette ink.  The body was punched out by using the Best Badge stamp set.  The shorts used the same Best Badge punch and a little triangle was cut out of the bottom to resemble board shorts. The Designer paper I used was from an In Color Designer Paper Stack.  The arms were made from the Cookie Cutter Builder punch.   The shave ice cone was made out of a retired banner punch and the shave ice itself was a 1 1/2 circle that I colored with sponge daubers.  Finally a clear wink of stella was brushed over the top of the shave ice to make it sparkle.  This is by far the cutest card I have made in a while all thanks to the talented Jodi Hashimoto who designed it and allowed me to teach it at my class.  I realized after reading Jodi's blog that we used a different punch to make the cone.  Her's is a little larger and I like how it covers part of the boys face.  To see the original rendition of this card on Jodi's blog, click here.

If you follow my blog you know that many of my creations are inspired by the people.   When I saw Jodi's card I immediately fell in love with it and thought of cutie patootie Andrew.   When Andrew was younger he would come in my stamp room and ask to play with my punches to make shapes.   Even at two years old he knew the names of shapes better than I did.   So I think that its quite appropriate that an adorable card make with punched shapes would be named my "Andrew card".  Take a look at the photo below and let me know if you understand why this card reminds me of precious little Andrew!

I hope you enjoyed seeing the cards that were created at my April stamp a stack.  This was the final class in my stamp room as it appears below.  I better go check on the construction and take some more pictures to share with you soon.

Aloha Jennifer

I just finished completing 47 swap cards for this weekends Spring Sensation Stamp Camp.  The theme was Spring cards for any occasion.

As you know when I stamp I often am inspired by the person I will be giving the card to.  Ideas come much easier when I think of people and not product.  So in designing this swap card I thought of my sweet friend Jennifer who is going to be moving very soon.

Jennifer has been a wonderful customer and friend for the past couple of years.  I feel so honored and blessed to have met her and to have had the opportunity to not only stamp with her but also with her lovely mother who comes to visit every so often.  Both of them are wonderful crafters with such beautiful hearts.

Whether Jennifer is at a class, bunco or even at the gym where I sometimes run into her, she is someone who always greets everyone with a friendly smile.

For her card I used one of my favorite color combinations of Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo.  These colors are bright and vibrant, just like Jennifer's personality.

Do you recognize these flowers?  They are from the Jar of Love stamp set.   This shows how versatile that set can be as you can create a card without using the jar image at all!

The sentiment on this card comes from the Suite Sentiment stamp set and I think these words perfectly express how I feel about Jennifer.

Right now she's still on the island packing things and preparing for her move to the East Coast.  I know I will see her at least one more time but I wanted to take the opportunity at our stamp a stack class this past weekend to surprise her with a lei and card to let her know how much she is loved and will be missed.

I know I won't be the only one to miss her.  We all love her very much!

Although she'll be missed, I'm thankful that she will bring her beautiful spirit of Aloha to a new community so more people will get to meet her and discover how special she is.

Aloha Jennifer, you are loved and will be missed.

Mom's Birthday

Today we celebrated my Mom's 85th birthday.  Jessica and I took she and my Dad to one of our favorite places, the Ama Ama Restaurant at the Disney Aulani hotel.  It is nice to have such a beautiful property only a few minutes from our home.

It was an absolutely beautiful day.  Most of our family was working but I was glad Jessica was able to escape for an hour to join us at this special early morning celebration.

I really admire my Mom's strength.

Life radically changed for her a couple years ago when my Dad began to show signs of dementia.

My mom takes excellent care of my Dad.  She has had to make a lot of unexpected adjustments to her life but she persevered with grace, demonstrating her faith and trust in the Lord.

My Mom's favorite color is blue.  We didn't plan it but we all just so happened to be dressed in blue today.

So naturally when creating her birthday card and gift I had her favorite color in mind.  Would you like to see what I created for her?

I created her card using the Jar of Love stamp set.  I used a color scheme of Marina Mist and Wisteria Wonder.  I embellished every small flower stamp with a tiny rhinestone jewel and added some gold enamel shapes too!  The water in the jar was created with an aqua painter that had been dipped into the lid of my Marina Mist Ink Pad.

To go along with the gift I took one of our small stamp cases and covered it with card stock and a coordinating design.  I used this as the gift box to wrap my gift.

Inside the box was three mini gift card holders that I created out of a 5 x 5 piece of card stock that was scored and punched with the envelope punch board.  Each of these little decorated envelopes had a gift card for something special that my Mom needed or could use.

I am so thankful for the opportunity we had to celebrate my Mom today and I am glad our time together made both she and my Dad feel happy and blessed.
