Here Today, Gone To Maui

Saturday was such a wonderful day.  I flew to Maui early in the morning and my friend Cheryl picked me up at the airport.  Cheryl is a demonstrator from Maui and the leader of her group, the Maui Big Shots!  We had such a wonderful time sharing together.  Spending time with Cheryl reminded me once again of why I love being a part of Stampin' Up! so much.  Although we do the same job, you rarely feel a competitive Spirit amongst demonstrators.  Instead what you often find is sharing, encouragement, and love.  That is exactly what happened when Cheryl and I met.  Through sharing our stories, I was really encouraged and we made plans for more get togethers in the near future.

Cheryl had an event that day at her home and I wish I could have attended.  I would have loved to see some of her group because they have come to some of my events on Oahu before and they are just wonderful.

I always look forward to seeing them.  Cheryl and I are working at finding a way we can get our groups together in the near future.

The reason I couldn't attend Cheryl's event was because I was actually in Maui to visit with my friend Jodi and her husband Dave who were there celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.  Jodi is a dear friend whom I met during my Freshman year at Spring Arbor College in Michigan.   Jodi is one of those special friends whom you don't see often but when you do, you just pick up where you left off.  The last time we had spend time together was 13 years ago.  So right after breakfast, Dave and Jodi picked me up and we set out for a day of adventure!

I can't believe how much we did in just a few hours.  We went to a Bakery,  then shopping in Wailea and Lahaina, ate lunch at Tommy Bahama, swam in the pool at her condo and went out for one of the best sweet treats I have ever had and ended the day at Starbucks by the airport.

The sweet treat we had was from the Island Cream Company.  This special cream made of all fresh, local ingredients is unique and SOOOOOO Delicious.  It's not ice cream and its not gelato, but almost like the perfect combination of both.  It has the creamiest texture and choosing what flavor is hard because so many look so good!!!  Their motto is, "We Make Cravings" and you know what?? It's so true.  If I didn't have to leave the island that evening I probably would have went back the next day.

Since Jodi spent her entire trip on the island of Maui, I wanted to bring her something special from Oahu.  So I went to one of my favorite local boutiques, Manuhealii and purchased two zippered pouches to give as a gift to her.

Manuhealii makes the most beautiful clothing and accessories.  It makes choosing what to buy difficult because there are so many gorgeous things to purchase.   I love Monstera, so when I saw this pattern on these zippered pouches. I chose to buy Jodi two of them.

The design and color of the two pouches inspired the card I created for Jodi with our new Tropical Chic Stamp set and Tropical Thinlits.

I just LOVE this set so much.  Even with these non traditional colors it still looks amazing.  For the sentiment I chose a stamp from the Love What You Do stamp set.  I also added one of the cute wooden Tropical Elements as an embellishment.

The colors, Bermuda Bay and Night of Navy were a perfect match to the pouches and Jodi seemed really happy and surprised to receive this gift.  That made me feel really happy too!

The day was absolutely beautiful from start to finish.

As we said goodbyes, we vowed to not let another 13 years go by until we see each other again!

As I flew home, I felt so happy and thankful!  It was a blessing to have had the opportunity to spend a day in a beautiful place with such beautiful people who I am grateful to call my friends.

Lovely Lipstick Card

When it comes to beauty products, my daughter in law Joyce is very knowledgeable.  In fact, she even makes You Tube videos to share her wisdom with others.

Although she buys beauty products all over the place, I know that Sephora is one of her favorite stores.   That's why we often get her a gift card from there so she can shop for exactly what she wants or needs.

Last year I gave her a striped Sephora gift card that had red lips on it.  I created a card to match the gift card and shortly after giving it to her she sent me this adorable photo.

Receiving this photo really made my day.   It really captures Joyce's fun personality.  Joyce is such a beautiful person who adds so much joy to our family with her bright smile and funny stories.

Joyce's birthday is two days before mine so we have been blessed to be able to celebrate our birthday's together for the past several years.

Happy Birthday to Us!

Happy Birthday to Us!

This year we had a family dinner at Roy's, one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate special occasions.  I love our celebration dinners their that often end with Roy's famous chocolate soufflé!  Yum!

After dinner we exchanged gifts.  I decided to get Joyce a Sephora card again this year.

The card I found this year was even cuter than last year.  It was a blush colored gift card with black and white lipstick tubes all over it that featured a bright red lipstick color.

Here is a photo of the card I created for Joyce as well as the gift card that inspired this year's lovely lipstick design.

The big birthday greeting comes from the a stamp found on the first page of our new occasions catalog.  It is called "Birthday Wishes For You!"   The sentiment "You Look Gorgeous" comes from a stamp set in our annual catalog called "Happy Birthday Gorgeous".  The lipstick tube was made out of scraps of paper that I pieced together.

Joyce told me that she LOVED this year's card and once again she sent some adorable photos to prove it!

Tag, You're It!

Last week I went to Kahala Mall to pick up the dress I bought to wear at my daughter's wedding.  While headed to the store, I passed by this cute boutique called 33 Butterflies.  I was with a friend and we couldn't help but go in.   There were lots of unique pieces of clothing in this cute boutique and we both ended up making an unexpected purchases.

When I got home I took the tag off the item I purchased and noticed how cute it was.

The next day I had to create a birthday card.  I felt a little stuck on where to begin or what stamp set to use.  This can happen sometimes when you have a lot of great products to choose from.

I remembered the cute tag and it became the inspiration for the birthday card I needed to make.  Here is the card I came up with.

This card combines something old with something new!  The old is the stamp set Butterfly Basics.  This is a beautiful stamp set with 11 images in it.  The new set is Charming Cafe' which is from our new Occasions Catalog and has a really great set of coordinating framelits called Cafe' Builder which I also used on this card.

Here is a side view of the card so you can see how the layers were put together.

The bottom of card has a black strip of card stock that was punched with the Ticket Tear Border Punch.  A piece of linen thread was wrapped around the bottom to add a finishing touch as well.

What sparks your creativity?  Are there any of you out there who find inspiration in everyday things they might see like a photo from a magazine, a piece of fabric or even a tag from a new piece of clothing?  I love creating cards this way.  It is especially helpful when I don't know where to begin.  If you've never stamped this way I'd encourage you to take a look around you and create something inspired by something you see that you think is unique and beautiful.

In creating this project I received a double blessing.  Not only was I inspired to create a fun card but I also got a really cute new top to wear as well.  Hmmm, perhaps I should go back to the mall to look for more inspiration tomorrow!

Blooms and Wishes

A couple of weeks ago I was out shopping for a gift for my Sister in Law, Jennifer.  Since we live many miles apart, sometimes shopping can be a challenge because I don't really know what she needs.  Often because of this, we give each other gift cards.  I know for myself, I love receiving gift cards and hope that Jennifer will too, so that way she can pick out something that she really likes for her special day.

As I was shopping at Macy's I came across this flowery gift card.

It's hard to tell in the photo but it has a lot of gold in it that shimmers when you move the card.

I purchased this gift card for Jen and then used it as my inspiration for the birthday card I made for her.

This is not my usual stamping style but I was inspired to stamp this way because the card had a lot going on with all the flowers and colors and shimmers of gold.  I used the Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions folder to emboss the word "Happy" as the central focal point of the card.  The "Birthday to You" came from the coordinating Happy Celebrations stamp set.

I then fussy cut a bunch of flowers on glossy paper from the Blooms and Wishes stamp set and embellished galore with rhinestones and gold faceted gems.  There was an Old Olive textured base that was created with the Layered Leaves dynamic embossing folder and a lot of Gold Foil paper to make this card shine.  The leaf punch made it easy to add leaves behind the colorful flowers.

I spoke with Jennifer this morning to wish her a Happy Birthday and she didn't mention receiving my card yet.   I hope it arrives today so that she will receive it on her special day.  If not, the surprise is certainly ruined if she reads this post first, but that's ok!  Either way she will know that she is being thought of today, on her very special day!

Happy Birthday Sis!  I hope you have a day that blooms with blessings and may all your birthday wishes come true.
