Sushi Celebration

I have a wonderful friend named Karin.  As you can see we have something in common, we both are HUGE Seattle Seahawks fans.

We haven't had a lot of time to spend together recently so on Friday morning last week Karin called to see if I wanted to meet her for coffee.  I had to decline because I had a bunch of card stock to cut and collate for a class the next day.  Karin, being the awesome friend and sister that she is offered to come over and help.

As we chatted that morning she told me that after leaving my home she was going to be running errands to get ready for her husband Jay's birthday.  I asked if she needed a card as I wanted to do something to return the favor of her coming to help me and she said, "yes".

I asked her if there was any certain type of card she wanted for Jay and since Jay is a major foodie and sushi lover she suggested a sushi card.  So within a few minutes this is what I came up with.

The circle was cut from the retired Circle Framelit collection.  The texture was made with the Softly Falling Textured Embossing Folder.  The Crumb Cake texture was made with the Petal burst Embossing Folder and the other pieces were either punched with punches or cut with a paper cutter to resemble fish eggs, cucumber, egg and imitation crab.

I didn't know if it would pass the approval of such a Sushi connoisseur cause as you can see from the photo below Jay really appreciates food, especially this wonderful spread he enjoyed with his missions team in Japan a couple years ago.

Here's another photo of the card so you can see its a bit smaller than a regular card.   However, its still large enough to write a Happy Birthday Message inside or include a gift card to Jay's favorite Sushi Restaurant.

I heard that Jay and his family had a wonderful celebration!  They spent time together eating sushi and celebrating Jay who is a wonderful Husband, Father, Friend, Businessman, Leader, Counselor, Entrepreneur and Foodie Extroidenaire!

I guess the card met his approval because it looked good enough to eat!

Happy Birthday Jay!  I hope your Sushi Celebration was memorable and that you felt overwhelmingly blessed on your special day!

Have A Cup Of Cheer

One of my favorite holiday traditions is to gather with my Ohana for our annual Ugly Ornament Exchange and Christmas Lights Party.   Our plan for the evening is to keep things simple.  We order pizza for dinner and then bring stuff to make hot cocoa so we can have something fun to drink when we walk over to see the neighborhood lights.  Which by the way is the same lights that were recently featured on an ABC television show!

For my simple contribution, I remembered a project I had done for our Home for the Holidays fair.  I brought some jumbo marshmallows and a pack of food markers and let the kids draw faces on them.  The kids then dropped their jumbo marshmallow in their hot cocoa and added a candy cane to make it minty.

This is a really simple idea and one that can be reproduced as a fun gift during the Holidays.  You can see below the collection I made for my fair.   I just drew the face, sealed it in the bag and made a cute topper.  The set, Cup of Cheer, provided the perfect stamp to add to the topper and when you put it all together you had a fun favor that would brighten up anyone's cup of cocoa and make it something to cheer about!

I feel so blessed to have had such a special night with such special friends that add so much joy to my life.  I love it that we share traditions such as this and take the time to be together during the busy holiday season to celebrate together as an ohana.

I hope that you are enjoying this season as much as I am!  And if hot cocoa is on your menu for any of your holiday gatherings remember this fun project so you can create some marshmallow snowmen and create a cup of cheer for your friends and family to enjoy!
