September has begun with much to celebrate.
First, this weekend was my son Kalani's 24th Birthday. Kalani is a recently graduate of Hawaii Pacific University and he has been working hard studying to take his CPA exam. He's passed the first three parts of the test and has just one more to go next month! We are so proud of all he's accomplished and of where he is heading!
Since I've been playing with a lot of our new Holiday Catalog Items I decided to use the set "Here's To Cheers" for his birthday card this year. This set is a great one for making Holiday Hostess gifts but I was glad to find a use for it on a Birthday card.
Here is the card I made for Kalani.
This card has a few more layers than I normally put on my cards. I started with a Tempting Turquoise base and layered a piece of Festive Designer Series Paper on Top. Then next layer is Basic Black topped with a stamped Whisper White card stock that features the stamp, "there is much to celebrate". I layered another Turquoise and White combination on top of the stamped layer and then stamped the sentiment on a separate scrap of card stock and punched it out. I stamped it once in Basic Black and once in Emerald Envy and I used my Paper Snips to just cut out the word Celebrate so it could be highlighted on this card. I used my Large Number Framelits and some retired Black Glimmer Paper to cut out the number 24. Finally, I added a rhinestone on the exclamation point.
In addition to Celebrating Kalani we also had a wonderful Celebration on Sunday as our Church New Hope Leeward reopened the Waipahu Campus that had been closed due to a flood. This is the campus I've attended the past several years where I serve as a worship leader.
I so love these people i serve with. You would never know that we get up in the wee hours of the morning to make our 4:50am call time to begin preparing for the morning three services. Its never a chore because it is such a blessing to serve along side of such amazing servant hearted people.
As you can see we have a lot of FUN together. Today we were jumping for joy not only because of the grand opening but we were also celebrating Jason's birthday. He's the one who is jumping the highest in the center of this photo. It was so amazing to know that he would sacrifice time on his special day to come down and be a blessing to the church and to us.
We also celebrated the beginning of Fall and the start of one of my favorite Seasons! FOOTBALL SEASON. I am a huge football FAN as you can see by my SeaHawks 12 flag that proudly hangs on my banister. I usually just put it out during football season but this one has been proudly hanging since last year!
I also began to put out some Fall decorations in my home. We don't get to see the changing of leaves here so I make sure to fill my home with lots of Fall colors, pumpkins and scarecrows!
I was a little sad putting out these beautiful handmade Fabric pumpkins that my friend Lynn made for me because she moved away a few months ago and I really miss her, especially at this time of the year. There are so many things that I see that make me think of her and I'm glad I have these special pumpkins she created to remind me of her.
I just found out I'll be visiting Seattle in a couple of months so I will look forward to seeing her then.
On Sunday evening we went to Tommy Bahama restaurant in Waikiki.
It's one of our favorite places to celebrate! The entire family came to celebrate Kalani and we had an enjoyable evening together.
My brother Gordon brought a funny gift for Kalani to celebrate the start of his career as an accountant, a calculator and some funny 3D glasses. We all had a good laugh.
This weekend was special because of the people I shared it with. It was filled with love, joy and so many celebrations and laughter too.
Did I mention that when I completed Kalani's card I put the wrong AGE on it. I got his age and his sisters age mixed up and I had 26 on the card. I didn't ever realize it until I handed the card to my husband to sign and he had a funny look on his face. I was glad the number wasn't stamped but only cut out with the Big Shot so I quickly cut a different number and the problem was fixed.
I wonder if that is why Kalani is pointing to the number in this photo below... trying to "point" out that he is in fact 24.
Happy Birthday Kalani! We know that besides your birthday, you are in a season where you have much to celebrate and we are certainly very proud of you!
