See A Victory

My friend Annie recently celebrated a birthday. Annie has always been such a kind and loving friend to me. She is always there to lend an ear, to give honest feedback and to be a source of encouragement. I feel so thankful and blessed to know her and call her my friend.

Annie loves plants and flowers, so for her special day I created a birthday card using a new stamp set called Floral Essence.

Floral Essence Card

Floral Essence Card

The colors that I chose for this card were inspired by the wrapping paper I bought to wrap her birthday gift in. You can see the gift in the photo below, behind the card.

Floral Essence Card

Floral Essence Card

Although the flowers are different, I thought this set coordinated well with the wrapping paper. I just love this color combination!

The sentiment in this set says, “All day are beautiful that begin with you”. This is a beautiful sentiment that reminds the person you are giving the card to how valuable they are to you. By saying this, you are communicating that time spent with them is time that truly makes a difference in how your day will be.

In the season of life I am in right now, I know that it is important for me to begin each day spending quiet time with God. As I read my Bible, I find wisdom, strength, encouragement, direction and peace. Those are things that I’ve really needed in this season as I still am facing an undiagnosed health issue.

Many of you have inquired as to how I am feeling? To be honest, over the past couple of days I’ve been up and down. My faith, trust and confidence in God is strong and I am working hard to keep it that way! However, when any of my symptoms begin to flare up (and over the past two days, this has happened) I sometimes respond with frustration and discouragement. To be honest in a weak moment I sometimes say, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired! Responding like this is definitely my down!!! What can I say, I am a work in progress! It has been a challenging road but I am confident I will learn and grow stronger during this season!

That is why starting my day reading God’s word and meditating on his promises is so important. It truly does make a difference and it reminds me that I don’t have to fear because the battle isn’t mine, it belongs to the Lord. Here is a verse I memorized this week.

The Lord will fight for you, you just need to be still. Exodus 14:14

I don’t know about you but being still has not been something that comes easy to someone like me. I am used to always being on the go. These past few years my life has changed a lot in this area as I’ve learned the importance and value of rest.

My friend Annie is someone who over the years has often lovingly reminded me of the importance of rest. She is a very wise woman. After going through some challenging circumstances, I get it. It is SO important to slow down and take time to rest.

As I end today’s post I want to encourage any of you who are facing a battle in your life right now. It’s normal to react with fear or frustration but don’t allow yourself to stay in that mindset. Remember that you are not alone! As you begin each new day take time to pray and talk to God about your circumstance. Read His word and allow His spirit to give you peace.

This new song by Elevation Worship has really encouraged me this week. I have been listening to it over and over and it has really helped me! The song is called SEE A VICTORY , you can click on the name to listen to it. I pray that if you are facing a battle in your life right now that as you listen to it, you will feel encouraged and can along with me begin to walk in victory and not in defeat because the battle isn’t ours, it belongs to the Lord.

July Inspiration Night

Our July Inspiration night was held in honor of our friend Roanna Chang who passed away last month.  We all miss her terribly and wanted to do something to honor her memory as well as be a support to one another through this difficult time as many of us were very shocked at the news of her passing.

Our evening started as most do, with introductions, announcements and updates.  I was blessed to eat dinner with and also introduce a group that was very near and dear to Roanna.  Her downline Jennifer and her customers Pat, Shannon and Kimberly.

I was so touched by their stories about how much Roanna meant to them.  Roanna lived in Kapolei which was over a 40 minute drive for these three to attend her classes yet they didn't let the distance stop them.  They would often be at her home for hours and she always took such great care of them assisting them and making them feel special.

Jennifer shared a story about how one day when she went to visit Roanna who was sick and the two of them were going to read the Bible together.   Jennifer told Roanna, "you go ahead and open up the Bible and whatever page you turn to, let's study that part".  Roanna agreed and opened up the bible and guess what chapter she turned to?  The book of Proverbs, chapter 3.  Roanna smiled as she opened her favorite pink bible and they read the chapter together that talks about trusting in God!   Roanna and Jennifer agreed together in prayer that their hope and confidence was in God and his perfect plan no matter the outcome.

It was this beautiful verse that Roanna and her family cherished so much that we decided to frame in her honor.  Here is the project we created together.

Roxanne helped to format the verses in both Hawaiian and English and did such a beautiful job.  I was so happy with the outcome.

When I gave this frame to the family I created a matching sympathy card to go with it.

As we gathered at Inspiration Night to create the frame together, I encouraged people to share stories and memories about Roanna.  We also had a display table set up where many people brought projects that she had given them or that they had made at her classes.

It was fun to hear the many stories shared throughout the night.

When Michelle walked through the door she smiled and pulled out this treasure chest card which is pictured below.  Michelle reminded me of when Roanna made this very detailed card to bring to convention and wanted to give one to Dawn Griffith because Dawn was such a treasure to her.  When I introduced Roanna to Dawn, Roanna shared some words with her and gave her this card and before you know it they were both crying!  It was a special moment to witness.

Jennifer shared how she is so happy that there is a recording on the Stamped With Aloha you tube channel of Roanna demoing at our Holiday Retreat.  She wowed us all when she demoed the projects below.  Jennifer said she watches it often just to hear her voice.

Kimberly shared how patient and loving Roanna was with each one of them.  She said even though they were "slow" stampers Roanna never made them feel pressured to hurry up.  They said when they created the frame below that they camped out at her house for several hours but always had so much fun and although it was a lot of work they always appreciated all the prep work Roanna did in advance to make it easy for them to create such outstandingly beautiful projects such as this one below.  Just look at all the details!  WOW.

Jennifer shared about getting Roanna's help to design and invitation and showed some of the beautiful samples created in red and yellow that Roanna gave her.

Goldie shared about the card in the middle and how it was a card that Goldie had made and Roanna was so interested she asked Goldie to show her how to make one.  Goldie remembered that moment fondly as one of the first conversations she and Roanna had shared.   Goldie also said that as they spoke they discovered they both had something in common, they were drawn to Stampin' Up! by watching videos where they would hear the "click-click" of the ink pad opening and shutting and that would always make them smile.

Others shared how touched they were by the time she helped them create swaps.  Liane shared that when she was going to her first convention, Roanna gifted her with 100 beautiful swap cards to swap that were all completed.  That was just the kind of heart she had, so loving and so giving.

Roanna loved punch art and this project as well was put on display.  Again a gift that Roanna had made to bless a friend.

I know Roanna would have been touched by all the kind words spoken about her.  There were even some funny stories shared that made us all laugh.

Terry spoke of meeting Roanna many years ago at a roller skating rink and how the two of them became childhood friends.  After High School they lost touch with each other but reunited in my living room at a Stamp Class just a few years ago.  It was such a fun moment and to think they both lived just minutes from each other and didn't even know it.

I think Roanna would have been pleased with the outcome.  She loved crafting!  Sharing creativity brought her so much joy and that was what the atmosphere was like as we remembered our special friend.

I think Roanna would have really appreciated the orderly manner that Verilyn (above) and Barbara (below) had sorted their flowers!

And I know Ann would have made her smile.  Ann makes us ALL smile by her funny comments and contagious laugh.

It was a special night.  Tasha pictured is creating the plumeria blossoms for the frame by cutting out white flowers and using an aqua painter to add color to the center.  Tasha remembered to wear her pin that we created for our last gathering.  It is our punch art Roanna pin that we can wear and keep her memory close to our heart.

There were two other parts of our evening.  I gave out recognition cards to any demonstrator who had promoted or anyone who qualified in our TOP TEN sales.  It was quite moving when I announced that despite her illness, Roanna was our number 2 demonstrator for the month of JUNE!  This card created in her favorite green color was received in her honor by Jennifer who will be taking it to Roanna's family this week.  I know that this sentiment truly reflects how Roanna was to her family and those she held dear to her heart.

Our swap was also done in her honor.  It was a green card swap since GREEN was her favorite color.  I made a card that was inspired by this cute card Lynsay had sent me in the mail last month.

I just adjusted the colors and laid it out a little different and this was the outcome.

Its hard to see in the photo but I added glue from the fine tip glue pen to the back of the lady bugs to make them shiny and to give them dimension.  Looks just like crystal effects and dried a lot quicker.

Well the sentiment on this card certainly expresses how we all feel about Roanna.  She was a precious friend and stamping sister that will be missed dearly by us all.

I want to end this post by sharing some words that I shared at this meeting.

Botanicals Framed Art - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Botanicals Framed Art - www.stampedwithaloha.com

These words framed here are something Roanna and her family believed with all of their hearts.  It was their foundation.  It is the reason why during her most difficult days she was still able to smile.  It's the reason why when so many of us asked how she was doing she said she was fine even though if we had known the entire circumstance we may have thought otherwise.  Roanna knew that her life was in God’s hands and she trusted Him for every day she was blessed to live.  I hope that a you look at this project, you will be blessed by the words and allow them to sink in your heart.  I think Ro would have liked to know that she had the opportunity to share her faith with you as that was so important to her and the reason why she was confident about her future.  It's also the reason why her family was at peace.  Although she will be missed greatly, they know that they will be reunited with her again one day.

Thank you for taking the time to read today's post to hear about our special inspiration night in honor of our special sister and friend.

Inspiration Night is so much more than a demonstrator meeting, and having one in honor of Roanna really demonstrated what our inspiration nights are all about.  A night for inspiration, creativity, sharing, love and aloha.

Fresh Fruit and Flowers

In May our friends Bruce and Lynsey invited us to accompany them on a trip to Chamonix, France to go on a week long hike called the Tour du Mont Blanc.  Since we were with them in Europe at the time on a Stampin' Up! Grand Vacation that took us to Spain, France and Italy, we never dreamed that we would be able to return to France so soon.

However, miraculously thing worked out and we were able to travel with them to accomplish this bucket list adventure where we will hike in the Alps through Switzerland, France and Italy.

We arrived in Geneva, Switzerland and the first thing I noticed at the airport was this beautiful flower shop with all these colorful flowers.

Just across from the Flower shop was this pastiery shop where I couldn't pass without taking a photo of these amazingly beautiful sweet treats.

These beautiful treats reminded me of some beautiful creations my friend Kim Williams had recently stamped.  Kim was a presenter at our On Stage event a few months ago and Kims presentation featured some amazing cards that she created with a brand new stamp set called Fresh Fruits.

The stamp set is great and has gorgeous coordinating card stock called Fruit Stand that is featured on all of Kim's cards.  Kim inspired me to use this set and paper to create a gift for Lynsay to thank her for telling us about Chamonix and for inviting us on this adventure with her.  I'll share that project in my next post but until then I have asked Kim if I could feature her projects in todays blog post so you could see first hand what beautiful creations you can make with the Fresh Fruits stamp set and coordinating Fruit Stand Designer Paper.

Which is the stamp?  Which is the paper?  In this card the way that Kim placed the stamps it almost appears to be a sheet of colorful paper but the only Designer Paper on this card is a small striped strip on the left edge.  In this sample Kim masked an area of the card by placing a thin piece of scrap paper and then stamping over it.  When she removes the paper there is an unstamped strip of watercolor paper exposed that a perfect focal point for her greeting.

This is the same masking technique Kim uses on this strawberry card.

However in this sample she simply uses the Designer Paper to create a little banner accent which is embellished with a jeweled rhinestone

These strawberries look good enough to eat.  Here are a couple more Strawberry card samples..

Again, I can hardly tell if this background was made with Designer Paper or the stamp.  If you like to create colorful and delicious back grounds then this is the set for you.  I like how Kim used the Designer Paper to stamp her greeting and even lined up her Happy Birthday right across the striped paper, using it just like a piece of notebook paper.

This sample below shows more of the strawberry Designer Paper and shows a cool embossing technique on the stamped strawberries that are featured in a punched out circle focal point.  Kim embosses the entire circle to give it a highlighted shiny finish.

This next card featuring the peaches uses the same embossing technique plus adds some colorful washi tape and a larger piece of the beautiful peach accented Designer Paper that is really colorful and pretty.

I also love the sentiment on this card, "I'm here for you".  This is something that Kim definitely has shown to me time and time again.  She is a loving friend to so many and gives so much to show others how she unselfishly loves and cares for them.

This final fruit sample also shows the embossed stamped fruit focal point but this time it features the pear.  This card shows not only one side of the pear designer paper but also the reverse side which has polka dots and the card is finished off with a piece of our new in color ribbon.

This was a little more than just the cappuccinos that were ordered but Delicious and Beautiful, just like Kim's fruit cards.

Did you know you can also create flower cards with this set too?

Here is a simple sample of a flower card that Kim made that uses the same masking technique as the first card I shared.  Its so great that the Fresh Fruit set has such versatility that you can create cards that feature Fresh Fruits and Flowers!

Speaking of flowers, they are absolutely beautiful here.   Chamonix is an absolutely breathtaking colorful place.  We fell in love with it just minutes after walking through the town center.  The bright and colorful flowers are so vibrant in contrast to the beautiful, glistening snow capped mountains.

I feel so honored and blessed to have been able to experience this place.  I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Lynsey so again, in my next post you will see how I used the Fruit Stand Designer Paper to create a small gift with her in mind.

Until then I just want to say a special mahalo to my friend and featured guest artist Kim Williams for sharing all these fabulous Fresh Fruit and Flower projects that coordinated so well with my early adventures in Chamonix, France.

Thank you so much Kim for being a featured guest artisan on my blog this week and for sharing these Fresh Fruit and Flower creations.  I wish I could thank you by sending a box of these adorable cookies I saw in Switzerland.
