My Hero

Andrew is one of the sweetest and smartest 5 year olds I know.  Currently he is an admirer of Captain American, not because he's read the books or seen the movie but my guess would be its because of his cool shield of shapes.  For as long as I can remember this little cutie patootie has always been fond of learning.  His mom is a very gifted teacher so he has been well educated from a very young age.

I love it when he comes to visit my house, although I don't have toys that a 5 year old would normally enjoy it doesn't stop Andrew from having some good educational play time with my Stampin' Up! punches.  He makes circles and triangles, squares and stars!  He knows what a hexagon is as well as an octagon and is probably hoping that one day Stampin' Up! will have these punches to add to his fun.

This past week this little genius celebrated his 5th birthday so I decided to make him a Captain America card featuring the shield he is so fond of.

This card was made with the Layering Circles Collection Frameliets, the Star Punch and appropriately named stamp set, My Hero!  I added a couple of In Color Enamel Stars on each side of the word Celebrate to complete the front of this fun card.

The My Hero stamp set also has this adorable shield stamp that worked perfectly to honor this special little wise and adventurous birthday boy!

I wasn't there when he opened it but his Mom sent me a few pics that really made my day.

First. she said he liked the way I wrapped his gift, he imagined it was a shield.  I had to laugh because as you can see wrapping gifts is not my greatest talent but Andrew didn't seem to mind one bit.

It sure was nice knowing that just the packaging alone made him happy on his special day.

Of course when he opened his card he took time to read it because like knowing his shapes, he known how to read for quite some time now.

This little Captain America is so special to our family.  I'm happy to know he liked his card and gift and even more thrilled that he is a part of our lives!   We sure are blessed that we have the opportunity to continue to watch him learn and grow into the little Hero he was destined to be.

Cookie Cutter Creations

Tuesday night was my monthly Inspiration Night and I was really excited to share some fun Cookie Cutter Christmas Creations with all who attended.  The unique thing about this class is that I showed how to take a holiday stamp set and use it to create cards for other occasions!  I also paired Cookie Cutter Christmas with Suite Sayings so that only two stamp sets were used to create all of these cards with the exception of one additional stamp from Jolly Friends but I'll tell you about that in a minute.  Another common element of these cards is that they all use Candy Cane Lane Designer Series paper and they are also all embellished with various sizes of pearls.

For now, let's take a closer look at this fun boxed set of note cards.

The box itself is made of one of our clear mount stamp cases.  These cases are perfect for holding note card sized cards.  The layered circle on the front is from the Circles Collection framelits.  I love that this collection has both scallop circles and plain circles.  Layering the circles, as shown below,  makes a perfect background area for the focal point of a project,

Our first card was a birthday card with the same "pig tail" design that I shared about in my last post.  You can create pig tails by stamping the gingerbread man twice and then on one of them cutting the arm pieces and attaching them to the head with glue dots.  Two pearl buttons were added for dimension and texture.

The next card is a baby card.  Isn't this bear sweet?

When you create the bear you have to stamp the ears first and then the bear on a separate piece of card stock that gets punched out with the coordinating punch and layered over the top where you align it with the stamped ears.

The next card is one of my favorites.  When I was designing it I had a Tom Cruise movie playing in my stamp room.  In the movie Tom was wearing sunglasses and looking sharp.  Suddenly, I was inspired to put sun glasses  and a black tie on this gingerbread man so I drew some glasses with a sharpie pen.  However, just prior to hosting this class I received the stamp set Jolly Friends and I realized that the glasses in that set are the PERFECT fit for this guy so that is how I added an additional stamp set to this class.   Thanks to Tom for being my inspiration for this hand stamped creation!

Doesn't he look handsome and successful with his black tie and cool glasses?  These ladies at Inspiration Night certainly thought so.

I saved the BEST for last.  This punch art creation has been in my stamp room for weeks but I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it on a card.   This card was definitely the most work but also the one that everyone got the most excited about as you can see below.

I just love this sweet mermaid.  She is made of punches.  Here is what you need.

The body, hair, bangs and mouth - Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  The hair and small flower - Tree Builder Punch.  The tail - Jolly Hat Builder Punch.  The end of the tail and shells - Holly Berry Punch.  The Large Flower - Blossom Builder Punch.

The Fabulous Foil Acetate is perfect for this card but it can be challenging to punch it out so either trace and cut it with scissors or if you want to punch it here are some tips.  First, remove the thin layer that covers the acetate.  Place a piece of copy  paper over and under the acetate before punching it to strengthen it and avoid getting it stuck in the punch.

Everyone's card came out a little bit different.  The way people angled the hair or placed the pearls all gave each Mermaid a different personality.

I loved seeing all these beautiful Mermaids come to life and loved even more watching how great of a time everyone had as they created this card.

I think the two who had the most fun where these two ladies below, Terry and Lori.

Lori took off her jacket and placed it on Terry's head to resemble the long red hair of the Mermaid that we all know she is at heart.  I think the photo and caption below, says it all!

In addition to making these fabulous projects the ladies all swapped some amazing Cookie Cutter Christmas swaps.  I don't normally host a swap that features a single stamp set but everyone in my group purchased this set because they loved it, so it was the perfect time to host an swap themed after a stamp set.

Everyone made such beautiful cards and watching them share them with one another was wonderful.

Of course we were also spoiled by Chef Craig's delicious dinner.  Tonight we had curry stew, rice and salad.  Craig takes such amazing care of us every month as he blesses us with his God given talent for preparing food that is created and served with aloha.

It is always so much fun to gather for my monthly Inspiration Night.  I love my Stamped With Aloha sisters who are so much fun to spend time with, even the "kolohe" (rascal) ones pictured below.

It was great to see all the smiling faces and know our time together was filled with inspiration, creativity, encouragement, fun and lots of aloha amongst us stamping sisters and friends.

Sushi Celebration

I have a wonderful friend named Karin.  As you can see we have something in common, we both are HUGE Seattle Seahawks fans.

Hawaii SeaHawk Fans Karin and Cindy - www.stampedwithaloha.com

We haven't had a lot of time to spend together recently so on Friday morning last week Karin called to see if I wanted to meet her for coffee.  I had to decline because I had a bunch of card stock to cut and collate for a class the next day.  Karin, being the awesome friend and sister that she is offered to come over and help.

As we chatted that morning she told me that after leaving my home she was going to be running errands to get ready for her husband Jay's birthday.  I asked if she needed a card as I wanted to do something to return the favor of her coming to help me and she said, "yes".

I asked her if there was any certain type of card she wanted for Jay and since Jay is a major foodie and sushi lover she suggested a sushi card.  So within a few minutes this is what I came up with.

Sushi Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The circle was cut from the retired Circle Framelit collection.  The texture was made with the Softly Falling Textured Embossing Folder.  The Crumb Cake texture was made with the Petal burst Embossing Folder and the other pieces were either punched with punches or cut with a paper cutter to resemble fish eggs, cucumber, egg and imitation crab.

I didn't know if it would pass the approval of such a Sushi connoisseur cause as you can see from the photo below Jay really appreciates food, especially this wonderful spread he enjoyed with his missions team in Japan a couple years ago.

Here's another photo of the card so you can see its a bit smaller than a regular card.   However, its still large enough to write a Happy Birthday Message inside or include a gift card to Jay's favorite Sushi Restaurant.

I heard that Jay and his family had a wonderful celebration!  They spent time together eating sushi and celebrating Jay who is a wonderful Husband, Father, Friend, Businessman, Leader, Counselor, Entrepreneur and Foodie Extroidenaire!

I guess the card met his approval because it looked good enough to eat!

Happy Birthday Jay!  I hope your Sushi Celebration was memorable and that you felt overwhelmingly blessed on your special day!
