Formula One Technique

Today I want to share with you a quick method for putting a set of cards together.  I call it my Formula One Technique.  This is the technique I use when I am short on time and want to create cards that are fast to make.  This technique works best when using any of our fabulous Stampin' Up! Designer Series Papers.  It is also the perfect technique for creating coordinating sets of cards.

Formula One technique is basically a color blocking technique.  I used it to create the base layer on this entire set of cards.

Naturally Eclectic Cards - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Naturally Eclectic Cards - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Do you see that all of the base layers of these cards have the same dimensions?  Here are the measurements for the Formula One technique.

Designer Series Paper - 3 x 5 1/4  Solid Card Stock - 1 x 5 1/4

Just take a standard size card, that has been folded in half to the top layer is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  Then add the Formula One Dimensions as described above.  For the focal point use any size card stock depending on what stamp you use to finish your card.  The Formula One is a fast way to create the base layer on cards.

These cards were created for a special event where I was highlighting our Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.

Here is a close up of each of the cards.

Oh So Eclectic Thank You Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Oh So Eclectic Thank You Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The first card was created using a set that is a part of the Naturally Eclectic Suite called Oh So Eclectic.  I fussy cut a coordinating flower and embellished it with one of our gold faceted gems.  I just love these gems, this one works perfectly to add an dimension and texture to the front of this card.

The next card was created using the Happiest of Days stamp set.

The birthday gifts were colored with our Stampin' Write markers and Basic Rhinestone Jewels were added to the bows on each gift.

Card number three uses the cute jeweled piece of the Designer Series Paper.

Beautiful You Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Beautiful You Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

I added a rhinestone to the center of a punched flower to embellish this fabulous fashionista who comes from the stamp set Beautiful You!

I changed direction on this butterfly card and put the one inch strip along the bottom front of this card.

Butterfly Basics Birthday Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Butterfly Basics Birthday Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

This is the only card that required a Big Shot because I used a framelit to cut out the Butterfly from Butterfly Basics Bundle so that it would look more three dimensional.

This technique is super simple and has made creating cards with Designer Series Paper so simple, quick and fun.

Next time you open up a pack of Designer Paper why not try and follow this formula to create your base layers and before you know it you'll be creating some Formula One cards that are FAST and FABULOUS!

Happy Stampin'

Watercolor Christmas kit (item 144649) is $20.  The Watercolor Christmas stamp set (item 144838) is $18  However if you come to class at my house, you don't need to invest in the stamp set because you can use mine.  I am charging $25 for the class and you will not only receive the cards but also your own Multi Purpose Glue to use and take home with you.

If you are interested in taking my class tomorrow let me know right away.  You can also order this kit and stamp set from me and enjoy making these cards on your own.  This kit makes a great gift and even provides a fun activity for your next get together with friends.

I know for myself, I'm looking forward to getting an early start this Holiday Season so that I can enjoy every minute of my most favorite time of the year.

Happy Aloha Friday everyone, have a happy and blessed weekend!

April Stamp A Stack

As I sit here to share today's blog entry I can here the sounds of drills and hammers nearby as my stamp room is being renovated.  I will take photos during the construction and share updates with you when the job is completed.  Until then, I have lots to share with you from classes and events that took place at the end of April.

My April stamp a stack was really fun this month.  I was excited to teach how to make these four cards.

Cindy's April Stamp A Stack Class - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Cindy's April Stamp A Stack Class - www.stampedwithaloha.com

This first card is a friendship card.  I created this card for Krista who was one of my best friends from High School.  Krista was on Oahu last month and just happened to be staying at a resort just a few minutes from my house.   I was so excited to see her because we hadn't seen each other in over 25 years.

When we said our goodbyes in High School we vowed that we would get together every few years and sadly that didn't happen as we hoped it would.

However, the mark of true friendship is that when we did get together 25 years later, we just picked up where we left off and it was wonderful to be together again!

This first card in my stack is the card I made and gave to Krista when she was here.  I am thankful that our friendship has lasted for so many years.

This card was created with the hostess set called Love You Lots and the Occasions catalog set Window Shopping.  I colored the hedgehogs with the Watercolor pencils and a blender pen.

The next card is very similar to the card I made for my Mom's birthday.  I just changed the colors and simplified it a bit so it would be appropriate as a stamp a stack card.

I sure love this stamp set, Jar of Love.  I am glad it is not retiring and will be available in our new catalog.

Card number three was created with the Swan Lake stamp set and it has such a sweet message.  It reads, "Wherever you go today....."

"may happiness follow".  That is such a beautiful sentiment to share with others!

Goldie shared her precious baby with me which always makes me happy!!!

And speaking of precious things that brings me to my last card.  This final card was designed by my downline and friend Jodi Hashimoto.  Jodi is uber talented at making cute things.  When I saw this card it made me think of little Andrew.  I told Jodi although it was a lot of work I was going to prep the pieces so that I could teach everyone to make this adorable punch art card.  Are you ready to see it?

Punch Art Shave Ice Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Punch Art Shave Ice Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Doesn't this card just make you smile and want to eat a rainbow shave ice?  For those of you who love punch art here are the punches I used to create Jodi's card.

The head was made with crumb cake card stock and punched with a 1 1/2 circle punch.  The hair was made with basic black card stock and punched out with the 1 1/2 circle punch and then I used some paper snips to create bangs.  The face was stamped with Playful Pals stamp set and the cheeks were stamped with a pencil eraser and pink pirouette ink.  The body was punched out by using the Best Badge stamp set.  The shorts used the same Best Badge punch and a little triangle was cut out of the bottom to resemble board shorts. The Designer paper I used was from an In Color Designer Paper Stack.  The arms were made from the Cookie Cutter Builder punch.   The shave ice cone was made out of a retired banner punch and the shave ice itself was a 1 1/2 circle that I colored with sponge daubers.  Finally a clear wink of stella was brushed over the top of the shave ice to make it sparkle.  This is by far the cutest card I have made in a while all thanks to the talented Jodi Hashimoto who designed it and allowed me to teach it at my class.  I realized after reading Jodi's blog that we used a different punch to make the cone.  Her's is a little larger and I like how it covers part of the boys face.  To see the original rendition of this card on Jodi's blog, click here.

If you follow my blog you know that many of my creations are inspired by the people.   When I saw Jodi's card I immediately fell in love with it and thought of cutie patootie Andrew.   When Andrew was younger he would come in my stamp room and ask to play with my punches to make shapes.   Even at two years old he knew the names of shapes better than I did.   So I think that its quite appropriate that an adorable card make with punched shapes would be named my "Andrew card".  Take a look at the photo below and let me know if you understand why this card reminds me of precious little Andrew!

I hope you enjoyed seeing the cards that were created at my April stamp a stack.  This was the final class in my stamp room as it appears below.  I better go check on the construction and take some more pictures to share with you soon.

Happy Valentine's Day

One of my favorite things to do as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is to introduce stamping to someone for the first time who thinks they are not creative.  It is so fun to see the smile on their faces when they step out of their comfort zone and give creativity a chance.  I love to see them discover an artistic side that they never realized they had.

I was really blessed to stamp with this sweet man (pictured below) who came to his very first stamp class last week.  At the end of class I asked him if I could take a photo of him with his cards and he so proudly lined them up to display them for the photo.

This card created with the Sealed With Love stamp set is super simple and easy to make.  It is the perfect card for a new stamper.  The pink background stamp comes from the Happy Celebrations stamp set.

It was fun to share this quick and simple Valentine card with all the wonderful people who attended my class.

This sweet lady who attended one of my classes was a very gifted stamper, it was obvious to me she had been crafting for many years!

This wonderful stamp set, Sealed With Love with the coordinating Sending Love Paper Pack was also the featured products at my monthly Bunco games.

Here is the fun Aloha Prize that I came up with for this month's Valentine Bunco.

Who knows, maybe by doing so, one of them will change into a handsome prince?  No wonder all the ladies at Bunco were so anxious to win this prize.

For my Bunco favors this month, I got some help from the very talented Cindy Ontai of Zoe, Hawaii.  Cindy designed these amazingly delicious cookies to coordinate with one of the prints in our Sending Love Designer Paper Pack.

I feel so blessed to have such a gifted and talented friend like Cindy in my life so that we can partner together on projects such as this.

Well, speaking of Cindy, I have to get up bright and early on Valentine's Day 2017  because I am going to go on a hike with her and my friend Karin.  Cindy is not a big fan of photos but she knows if we make it to the top of the mountain, there will be photos and victory chocolate too.

That sounds like the perfect way to start my Valentine's Day this year.  With people I love, doing something I love, in the place I love more than anywhere else on earth.

I hope no matter how you celebrate your Valentine's day this year, that it is filled with love and blessings and the knowledge that God loves you and so do I.

Happy Valentine's Day.
