Cookie Mama

One of the nick names I have for my friend Cindy is “Cookie Mama” because she makes the most delicious cookies that are so beautiful you don’t want to eat them! At our Home For The Holidays craft fair last weekend she introduced a new design, this double sided snowflake cookie.

Aren’t they beautiful?

Cindy is also extremely gifted at making Gingerbread Houses. Every year at our Home for the Holidays craft fair we look forward to seeing her display. I managed to take a quick picture as she was setting up her display.

When people come to purchase her gingerbread houses they often take a long time to choose which one they want because they are all so unique and special. It’s fun to closely examine all the special little details Cindy puts on each house, they are truly a labor of love.

Cindy just celebrated her birthday. Since her birthday is just before Christmas we often combine her birthday celebration with some late night Christmas shopping.

We didn’t have a particular theme for our birthday dinner for Cindy so I decided to create a card for her that would be appropriate for the Cookie Mama that she is!

Here is what I came up with…

Cookie Cutter Christmas Birthday Card

Cookie Cutter Christmas Birthday Card

I created Cindy’s card using the stamp set, Cookie Cutter Christmas. I embellished the gingerbread cookies with Santa’s Workshop Enamel Shapes. I added three balloons that were punched out with the Balloon punch in various colors. The sentiment comes from the stamp set Calls For A Celebration.

The background of this card was created with a new product, the Dot to Dot Textured Impressions Folder..that is from our new Occasions Catalog that will be available in January.

When Cindy opened her card she smiled and thought the gingerbread cookies were so cute.

As we headed out after dinner to shop we saw these decorative red ornaments. We instantly thought of our friend Lynn who we are missing so much since she moved to Seattle. We plan on sending her these pictures and hope that when she sees them she will remember how much we love and miss her.

I am thankful for the opportunity we had to celebrate Cindy’s special day!

Happiest Birthday Wishes to our sweet and talented friend Cindy aka, “Cookie Mama”, we are so grateful for you!

Calls For A Celebration

One of my childhood memories is seeing my Dad leading songs at church. He would encourage the congregation to open up their hymnals and would lead them in worship. My Dad would sing with all of his heart. His smile and energy was contagious. It was evident in how he led, that he knew God and loved to worship Him.

The other day while visiting my Dad I played some old hymns for him. His eyes lit up and he smiled and began to try and sing along. It was a precious moment especially because my Dad has dementia and really doesn’t talk very much anymore.

My Dad may be non verbal but he still continues to teach me valuable life lessons by his example. He shows me that no matter what I face I should not let anything steal my joy. He may be quiet and not have the same energy level as he had before but he continues to smile despite the challenges he faces and that alone demonstrates his faith in God and the glad heart that he has.

For his 86th birthday we took him out for breakfast at the Disney Aulani Resort in Kapolei. The Ama Ama Restaurant at the Aulani is one of our favorite places to go to celebrate. Its less than 10 minutes from home and from the moment you arrive you feel the Disney Magic in how you are greeted and cared for.

I found a cute Disney themed gift bag to wrap my Dad’s birthday gift in, so naturally I had to make the card to match. “Matchy-Matchy” thats what I do!!

I used the classic “Mickey” colors for the card stock. They are Real Red, Basic Black, Daffodil Delight and Whisper White.

Here is a close up of the card.

I die cut the number 86 using my Big Shot and my Large Number Framelits. I then glued them to a Mickey shape that I created by using 2 Circle Punches. I embossed the Daffodil Delight card stock with the Scattered Sequins Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder to add texture. I then applied Twinkle Adhesive Backed Star Embellishments all over the front of the card.

Inside the card I stamped this sentiment:

“You are pretty much the greatest of all time in the history of ever”

When it comes to describing my Dad, this stamp from the set “Calls for a Celebration” expresses exactly how I feel about my wonderful Dad.

When Kalani and I went to visit my Dad the other day, he had just received this fun hat from my brother Glen as a birthday gift. When Kalani and I arrived my Dad was sitting on the couch, wearing his new hat as well as a pair of new sun glasses, inside the house. So Kalani or “Mr. K” as my Dad used to call him when he could talk, left his hat and glasses on too, so we could take this picture of the two of them together.

Kalani and my Dad have always been really close, so I know its especially hard on him to see my Dad in his current condition. I hope that like me, my kids will be encouraged by the way they see my Dad continue to stay positive despite the challenges he faces. It’s hard though, we all miss his stories so much.

Happy Birthday Dad!

I love my Dad so much!!! I am so grateful that I had another opportunity to celebrate with him. After all, turning 86 is certainly something that Calls For A Celebration!

Love Your Neighbor

The other day I had two friends over working in my studio.  We were stamping and creating projects for upcoming classes.   Suddenly, we heard an unfamiliar sound.  At first we thought it was rain.  Then we thought maybe it was a broken sprinkler head in my yard.   I casually got up from my chair and walked towards the sound and as I stepped toward the door, water sprayed me in the face!  Thats the moment I discovered that there was a broken pipe on my water heater.

Water was spraying everywhere!  We turned nobs but nothing happened.  We had no idea how to shut the water off.   We grabbed rags and a bucket but it became apparent that the water was going to continue to spray and we needed to do something fast.  I ran next door to see if a neighbor could help.   It seemed like only minutes had passed and before you know it my stamp studio was filled with not just one but three loving neighbors who had come to my rescue.

Thankfully my neighbor Terry recognized the problem right away and within an hour the broken pipe was fixed.   I was so grateful.  It was one of those moments that I wondered, what if I hadn't been here?  What if I had been traveling or even just out for the day?  I would have come home to a flood.

Just after my neighbors left, I looked at my friends who were still here working and said, "I have such great neighbors, don't I?

I then sat back down to work on the card that I had been designing when the commotion began.  When I saw the sentiment I had stamped just prior to the broken pipe I had to smile.  It said,   "I may not always be there with you, but I will always be there for you".  This reminded me of my wonderful  neighbors!  This sentiment comes from the stamp set, Calls For A Celebration,  and it seemed so appropriate for the chain of events that had happened in my stamp studio today!

As you can see I used the Tropical Chic stamp set on this card.  This time, I decided to try making a Tropical Card using brighter colors.  The yellow is a brand new color called Pineapple Punch.  What a great name!  The second color I used is Poppy Parade.  This is a returning color and one I really liked.  I used the Tropical Thinlits to die cut some leaf and flower embellishments. I added some of our new Red Rhinestones to embellish the flower.  No more using a red sharpie to color rhinestones now that we have these beautiful red sparkly gems!

In Matthew 22:37-39 it says: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it; Love your neighbor as yourself."

God has been speaking to me a lot lately about loving others.  I know that this is something that I want to do better.  I am grateful to God for blessing me with neighbors who so beautifully demonstrated this by coming to my aid when I had a need.  They have inspired me to want to do the same for them and for others.
