Today I was reminiscing of the fun Zeny and I had at the end of OnStage 2016. Last year we started a tradition of trying to spend a few extra days "somewhere" on our way home from convention. We went to Seattle in 2015 and had a great time. This year, we were blessed to stay in Bodega Bay with our friends Mary and Tom. Here are a few highlight from our adventure.
Our gracious hosts picked us up at the airport and took us straight to this fabulous restaurant called Original Joe's of Westlake that had a lot of sentimental memories for the two of them.
Not only was it fun to hear all of there stories from the good ole' days but the food was also absolutely amazing. Anytime I visit San Fransisco in the future I will definitely go there again!
Before heading to Bodega Bay we spent some time exploring San Francisco. We got to ride on a trolley. It was a fun experience.
Of course we had to stop at Ghirardelli's for some chocolate. We looked for flavors that we don't have in Hawaii to bring home.
One HUGE surprise was the discovery that one of my favorite stores, Desigual was in San Francisco! It was so fun to introduce Zeny to this store and ask you can see, I think she liked it as much as I do.
After a whole day of exploring the city we headed to Tom and Mary's home in Bodega Bay. It was dark when we arrived so imagine our delight when in the morning we saw fabulous views from every window of their lovely home.
We started the morning with an early hike. We saw this beautiful ship in the bay.
After our hike we stopped at the Spud Point Crab Company. Do you see that delicious sour dough bread? Oh my! It was so good. We also ordered fresh crab sandwiches and the most delicious clam chowder I have ever had.
The harbor was lovely and we had absolutely beautiful weather every day were were there.
The next day we went nearby to hike again. The area was perfect for hiking and Tom was so gracious to show us wonderful trails each morning that we were there.
As we hiked we met this black bird. He didn't budge at all and it was quite ironic because did you know that the Alfred Hitchcock movie "THE BIRDS" was filmed here?
I didn't know that when I met this bird or I probably wouldn't have gotten so close!
We did however curl up in our pajamas in front of the fire to watch that movie one evening. It was a Bodega Bay tradition.
The next day we did another hike but this time we went down to the beach.
The first thing we encountered were these two big vultures. As soon as we got close they took off.
This hike was fun cause there were lots of rocks to scramble over.
I was so grateful to Tom for taking me hiking each morning and it was so interesting how each hike was a little different although all in the same area.
Later that day we went into town to this cute country store.
Hey, look who was waiting outside to greet us? Alfred Hitchcock! Or at least a statue of him.
We couldn't resist striking a pose with him.
There were tons of memorabilia from the movie in this quaint little store.
We also drove past the school where part of the movie was filmed. It was great to see all of this since we had just watched the movie the night before.
Our final morning there we hiked again. This one however was through fields of flowers. Here's a few pics of some of the pretty flowers I encountered on this hike.
It was these flowers and the memories from our time in Bodega Bay that inspired today's creation. I created this card with a new designer paper called, Affectionately Yours. The stamp color of the flowers is our new Flirty Flamingo, isn't it pretty? I used the stamp set Wild About Flowers for the images and sentiment.
I love what this card says and think I will write a message in it and drop it in the mail to Tom and Mary today to thank them again for their gracious hospitality.
On the way to the airport we took a major detour! We went back to Napa Valley to this awesome shop we had discovered the day before and got a few more delicious treats to take home.
I am grateful to God for blessing me with this opportunity to spend time in California with good friends. I had heard about Bodega Bay from Mary for years and was curious of what it was like there. I can truly say that the entire experience from start to finish was filled with blessings and memories to last a lifetime!
