Birthday Blooms

Saturday was our Stamping In Paradise Stamp Camp as well as our Stampin Sister Roxanne's Birthday!  Roxanne decided that she'd like to spend part of her special day stamping with us.

Roxanne is such a blessing to all of us in our Stampin' Ohana.  I am so thankful for her and I was especially honored that she chose to spend a large part of her birthday at our event.

Although it wasn't planned one of the musicians who serenades people at the park wandered into our room to sing for us and when he found out it was Roxanne's birthday he sang a song for the birthday girl.  What a special treat!

Since I knew Roxanne's Birthday was the same day as the event I wanted to bring her a card to bless her with that day.

This card was made with the stamp set Birthday Blooms.  The technique I used on this card is the spotlight technique which is done when you punch out a small section of a stamped image and create a focal point by only coloring that section.  Then you mount the colored part exactly above the matching image just as if you were lining up a puzzle peace.

I really like the color combination of Blushing Bride and Basic Black and spotlighting a section with Real Red.  The contrast is so vibrant and beautiful.   I even found a way to incorporate the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper which has silver spots that add shimmer to the back ground of this card.

Our Stamp Camp was really great and I hope Roxanne enjoyed every minute of it.  I have lots more photos to share in my next post of the projects we created as well as the people who came to enjoy an afternoon of Holiday inspiration, creativity and fun.

I hope that our dear Stampin Sister Roxanne felt honored that day with lots of birthday hugs, songs and wishes as she celebrated part of her special day with all of us Stamping in Paradise.

A Beautiful Blessing

Last week I had another enjoyable evening stamping in Kaneohe with a wonderful group of ladies.  As I was waiting for the class to begin Shirley came in and shared a story with me about one of the cards she had made in class two weeks before.  Shirley's friend had recently been diagnosed with some very serious health challenges and she took this card to that person to let them know that she was thinking of them and praying for them.   This is the card that she shared.

As she shared the details of the situation and her visit,  I was so touched to see that something we had created in class was already being used to brighten the day of someone who needed encouragement.   I hugged Shirley and thanked her for sharing her story with me.

It's moments like these that make me feel so grateful to have the opportunity to use creativity to make a difference!

It was now time to begin class and all the lovely ladies arrived.  Each one of them has become such a blessing to me and I so look forward to stamping with them each week.

Here are the cards I taught them this week.

Our theme for the evening was Beautiful Blessings and Blossoms which featured cards with flowers on them.  The black and white card on the left and the floral card in the center are both created with images from the Birthday Blooms stamp set.

Card one celebrates the Blessing of Friendship and displays a single flower that has been colored with Stampin Write markers.  The Calypso Coral strip on the left side has been textured with the Lovely Lace Textured Embossing folder.

As I demonstrated this card one of the ladies pointed out that Barbara pretty floral shirt matched our card perfectly.

What a beautiful card created by Beautiful Barbara!

The next card is very simple but elegant and only uses a basic black ink pad.  It just so happened that Ann had on the perfect outfit to match this card as well.

This card is elegant and beautiful just like Ann is, she was the perfect model.

For the greeting on this card I used the stamp set Rose Wonder which has coordinating framelits that create this nice front label.  Rose Wonder has amazingly beautiful sentiment stamps in it, including this one that I used here that says, "What a Beautiful Blessing You Are".

The final card was a Botanical Blooms card.

It was great to hear all the ladies gasp when I stamped the red centers of the flowers.  Two step stamping usually gets that reaction, especially when done in front of people who have never seen it before.  The Botanical Blooms set has so many beautiful images but I kept things simple with a combination of Daffodil Delight, Real Red and Old Olive.  This stamp reminds me of my favorite Hibiscus called, the Hula Girl.

As you can see I purposely layered the sentiment over a flower that had been stamped underneath to add dimension.

Well... that wraps up last weeks session and tonight I am heading back there one last time.  I have to admit I'm a bit sad because I've so enjoyed this wonderful gathering of women who I've been  honored  to spend a creative hour each week for the past 4 weeks.

Meeting and stamping with them has truly been a Beautiful Blessing!

Bloomin Birthday Bunco

I just finished hosting my monthly Bunco games.  My March theme was Bloomin' Birthday.  The stamp sets I featured were Birthday Blooms and Friends and Flowers.  The Friends and Flowers set is a great one that coordinates perfectly with our Festive Flower Punch.

Cindy's March Bloomin' Bunco Night

Cindy's March Bloomin' Bunco Night

The favor I created was a Laffy Taffy flower.  I found these long pieces of Laffy Taffy at Sam's Club and they came in two colors, pink and green.  My original idea was to just attach a flower to the top of the green ones to make a flower favor on a long stem.  The problem was that because Bunco is so popular I didn't have enough green ones to accommodate all my guests.  Well, I am a true believe that sometimes when you run into a problem, there is always something good that can come out of it.  I was determined to have a green stem so I decided to try and make a box.  For those of you that know me well, this is not one of my giftings but I grabbed my simply scored board and took an 2 1/2 x 11 piece of garden green card stock and scored it at every 1/2 inch all the way across the card stock.  Here are some photos with instructions to explain how I made the box.

The great thing is that this perfect fits the taffy and it sticks inside the open box.  So all I had to do is stamp and punch the petals and leaf and attach them onto the top of the taffy and in the box it went to form a fun spring favor for all to enjoy!

To attach the flower I stapled the top of the taffy package all the way through the flower that was being held together by a punched out blushing bride 1 3/8 circle.  I added a second circle of the same size (with a dimensional) that had been stamped with a sentiment to cover the staple.

Friends and Flowers Chalk Board

Friends and Flowers Chalk Board

Our monthly aloha prize was a super cute chalk board that I found at Target.  I added the same flower image but just added a different sentiment from the Birthday Blooms stamp set.  It was fun to see how so many were so excited when the board passed through their fingers during the game hoping they'd be the one who'd get to keep it in the end.

I had a blast preparing this months Bloomin' Birthday bunco favors and aloha prize.  It always makes me happy to see others so delighted with the things I have put together.

I remember when someone first told me about Bunco and invited me over to play.  In my mind I thought, who has time to go out and play a game?  I'm so glad I not only went but started hosting Bunco nights of my own because I've found such value in investing time in building relationships, enjoying good food together, enjoying fellowship, and laughter and just finding time to take a break to do something FUN!  Thank you to all of you who invest in my Bunco events each month.  I LOVE spending this time with you.

Our next event will be By The Tide Bunco (nautical themed) on Sunday, April 3rd at 3pm or Monday, April 4th at 7pm.  Space is LIMITED so RSVP today by emailing me at cindyb@hawaii.rr.com!

Have a Bloomin' Beautiful Day!

Stamping With Mary

Yesterday I had a visit from my friend Mary.  Mary is a professional nail technician at my favorite salon here in Kapolei called Cosmic Beauty.  Mary is preparing for a special event and needed some help coming up with some favor bags and a couple of cards.  We worked together and this is what we came up with.

Birthday Blooms Friendship Card

Birthday Blooms Friendship Card

I started by showing Mary some projects I had recently created.  I made this card a few days ago for the top ten in sales in my down line.    Mary LOVED the flowers and asked if maybe we could use this paper and even this card design.

Mary wanted the cards to be simple and elegant without a sentiment on the front.  We simplified it by simply taking off the sentiment and i think they came out great.

Petite Cafe Gift Bags

Petite Cafe Gift Bags

Next we worked on some Petite Cafe Gift Bags.  Mary was going to be traveling to this event so it was important that her favors could be flattened out and not take a lot of space in her luggage.  These Petite Cafe bags were perfect for this as they can easily be opened up and filled after Mary arrives at her event.  I LOVE how this bag came out and there is plenty of space for her to fill it with special treats.  The bag is topped with a mini clothespin that has a jeweled flower on it.  I told Mary if she wanted she could add a small magnet to the back of it so that after the event those who received this bag could keep the little magnet flower as a memento.

This was my first experience sharing stamping with Mary.  I found that although she hadn't stamped before she was very artistic and creative.   Must be all of her years of experience drawing beautiful flowers on peoples nails.  It was a really pleasant visit and I was happy I could help Mary prepare for her event.

If you are looking for a great place to do your nails in Kapolei, I highly recommend Cosmic Nails.  When you book your appointment ask for Mary, you won't be disappointed.
