Oh Canada!

I started writing this post when I was in Edmonton, Canada a few weeks ago visiting my friend, Lynsay.  Her house is beyond gorgeous but it is the view from behind her house that had me in awe during my time there. When Lynsay had sent me pictures of it before, is was blanketed in so much snow. however on this trip, the scenery was almost exactly the opposite.  The sun was out, there were colorful green trees, a Saskatoon bush filled with ripe berries, and every so often the cutest fluffy jack rabbits would hop by the window.  I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to visit Edmonton and spend time with Lynsay's family at their beautiful home.

So, let me tell you a little bit about my trip!

Lynsay's daughter Eliza enjoys baking and is really good at it.  Since Saskatoon berries were in season she decided to bake us a pie.   The berries came from the bush in their backyard!!

Eliza is such a sweetheart!  It's hard to see in the photo but she made a pineapple in the center of the top crust!  What a warm, beautiful, and DELICIOUS welcome!  We were so excited to see her again and incredibly blessed that she took the time to make us such a special treat.

It was amazing!!!

When I am with Lynsay you can bet we'll be hitting the trails to go hiking or do some type of outdoor adventure.   Even though I wasn't there for a long time, we went on several hikes through the beautiful River Valley near her home.

Recently Lynsay has gotten involved volunteering for an organization called, Dogs With Wings.  This organization trains service dogs.  Lynsay is passionate about her work with this organization.  She is an excellent volunteer trainer and is in love with all these beautiful animals who have become a part of her family.  I enjoyed meeting many of the dogs I've heard her talk about and we had fun going on walks with some of them while I was there.

One of the things Lynsay was working on in her craft room was creating thank you cards to donate to the organization for an upcoming event.  I had the opportunity to help her put these cards together.

Isn't this card adorable?!   It was created with the stamp set, Bella and Friends.  I offered to help Lynsay by punching out the circles with the Starburst punch and then stamping and coloring the dog with Stampin' Blends.

I asked Lynsay, "So, how many of these cards are you making?"  "Oh, just 200 she replied!"

I tried to pretend like this was too much, but Lynsay knows I like to work on swap cards which often require making large amounts of the same card.  She also knows I love to color so this was a very fun way for me to have some creative fun while at her house.

On another one of our days there, we went to this fabulous Farmer's Market!

We enjoyed seeing all the colorful fruit and veggies.  Just look at these carrots!

The flowers were so vibrant and beautiful too!

Edmonton is a Festival City.  We enjoy hearing Bruce and Lynsay talk about all the fun concerts and events they get to go to that come to Edmonton.

We ended up being there during the Taste of Edmonton.  We went and enjoyed trying all different types of specialties from local restaurants.

We then visited the Legislature Building which had huge water fountains in front of the building.

It was unusually hot in Edmonton that day so cooling off IN the fountain seemed like the perfect idea!  As you can see, lots of other people felt the same way!

On another day, we enjoyed going canoeing with Michael and Jess. Michael is Lynsay's friend's son.  They were such a lovely couple.

We really enjoyed our time together on the North Saskatchawan river.   It was great to see the city from this perspective.

Halfway through our canoeing adventure, we gathered our canoes together and enjoyed a floating picnic.

When you travel with Lyndsay and family you are definitely going to enjoy great food!  They always come prepared with delicious snacks.

Speaking of snacks... here's a fun local place Lynsay took me to where we enjoyed a "so called" local healthy treat.

My Fries

My Fries

Have you heard of Poutine?  I hadn't.

Poutine is a dish that consists of French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy.  Doesn't sound very healthy, does it??  There are many different varieties of this dish.

We went to My Fries, where they offered a healthier version of this classic dish.

Just look at the menu... so many choices!!!

It was really fun to try this "healthy" dish :)

One of the must do things on our trip was to visit the West Edmonton Mall.  Lynsay knows I love to shop and it is one of the major attractions in Edmonton.  Up until 2004 it was the worlds largest mall. It had an amusement park, a petting zoo, a waterpark, and a mini golf course!

There was also a pirate ship and a sea lion show.

In another section we found an ice skating rink.

Of course the highlight for me was going shopping at the largest Lululemon store.

The mall also had lots of funny props for fun photo ops!

We had a blast shopping together that day!

Our time in Edmonton was so much fun. Whether it was exploring the city or just hanging out at the house, playing our nightly card games!  We had a blast.  It was a much needed time of R and R.

I am grateful that because of my involvement with Stampin' Up! we have become friends with the Mahon's and just like this pillow says, we think they are all pretty EH-Mazing!!!

One Pad, Two Stamp Encouragment

This week I had the blessing of traveling all the way across the island to stamp with a wonderful group of women at the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu.  I love the drive to the Windward side of Oahu as it is incredibly beautiful there.  Here is my view while heading in to set up my class.  Not bad, huh?

Every summer First Presbyterian of Honolulu hosts a wonderful event called WAKO which stands for Wednesdays At Ko'olau.  WAKO is a fabulous event where you can go and take all kinds of fun and interesting classes like Thai Cooking, Golfing, Painting, Zumba, Conversation Skills, Estate Planning, Swing Dancing, etc.  The class I am teaching is called Hand Stamped Cards.

The classes are divided into two session and I only teach the first session so its really important that with only one hour to demonstrate and complete my class I need to make my cards quick and simple.  Here are the cards I designed for week one at WAKO.

Quick and Simple Encouragement Cards - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Quick and Simple Encouragement Cards - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The common theme in these cards is encouragement.  To encourage means to make someone more determined, confident or hopeful.  These kinds of cards are so important to make and share because love and encouragement is so needed in our world today.

Encouragement was on my heart this week because on Sunday I lost a very dear friend who has been encouraging me for the past 30 years.  I thought of asking a substitute teacher to take my class but I found it very healing to go and share with the group about encouragement and tell them that our class was dedicated to my friend who had taught me so much about faith, hope, love and encouragement.

The great thing about these cards is that they are SIMPLE.  I didn't plan it that way but when I looked at the final samples I realized that each of these cards had something in common, they were all "One pad, Two stamp" cards.  Let's take a closer look at these simple creations so you can see what I mean.

Bella and Friends Encouragement Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The first card should look familiar if you follow my blog because its almost the exact duplicate of a card I did at last months stack class.  The only difference is I changed the color to Watermelon Wonder and I didn't fussy cut the dog.  So all it took to do this card was one black stamp pad, a stamped sentiment and a stamped dog.  One pad, two stamps and thats it!

Strength and Prayers Encouragement Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

This next card is simple elegance.  It features the beautiful Fabulous Foil Acetate and a punched circle of gold foil paper.  Who wouldn't love to receive and elegant card such as this to know that someone is thinking of you and praying for you?.  The stamp pad is black and format is the same,  "One pad, Two stamps", quick, simple, elegant and encouraging!

Floral Phrases Thank You Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The final card again shows this technique again.  A Night of Navy Pad used to stamp a flower focal point and then a beautiful sentiment.  "One Pad, Two stamps".... I'm starting to love this concept, are you?.

I used a jewel rhinestone on the "O" of the word thoughtful to add a little sparkle to this super simple but very elegant card.

I really loved the simplicity of these cards and am happy to report that the ladies did a fabulous job all 14 of them completing these three cards in less than 45 minutes.

I hope you were inspired to see how with just "One ink pad and Two stamps" it is easy to create beautiful cards.

So who has been on your heart lately?  Have you been praying for anyone?  Well now that I've shown you this quick and simple formula, why not send them a card of encouragement to let them know they are on your mind and heart.  I promise it will not only bless them but I know you will be blessed in the process because it feels good to offer hope, love and encouragement to others.

July Stamp A Stack

This past weekend was my monthly Stamp A Stack.  It's one of my card classes that I always look forward to.  It is fun to see my customers and downline who attend so faithfully as well as to meet new friends who come to join the fun.

Here are the cards we created at this months class.

I featured two stamp sets at this month's stamp a stack that were designed by two Million Dollar Achiever demonstrators.  This first card featured a stamp set designed by Angie Juda and features her adorable dog Bella.  The set is approriately named, Bella and Friends.

This is a super simple card and I think super cute too.  I had many guests comment on how sweet Bella was and even one who said she had a similar looking puppy named Bella too.

The next cards stamp set called, "One Wild Ride" was designed by Million Dollar Acheiver Dawn Griffith.   If you came to our May retreat last year you will remember Dawn and Rich were a huge part of making is such a success!  Dawn and Rich are two of my most favorite people who truly have hearts of gold. I was so blessed to spend time with them where we made so many wonderful memories to last a lifetime!

I think its so cool that the artists at Stampin' Up! designed this stamp by looking at a photo of Rich's actual motorcycle!

This is a great stamp set for creating masculine cards or even an all occasion card for your adventurous friends.

I am in LOVE with our new Large Letter Framelits.  I featured them this month along with our Timeless Textures stamp set to create this simple and elegant monogram card.  Everyone had the opportunity to choose their own monogram when they created this card.

I choose a "T" to demonstrate at my Saturday class and shared that if you didn't want to make a monogram card you could easily convert it into a Thank You card.  On Sunday I demoed a "P" monogram and Pam who attended that class was thrilled thinking that I had custom made these cards with her in mind cause her initials are PT.

It couldn't have worked out more perfectly if I had planned it myself and just look at this cute picture I got of Pam with the perfect initial monogram cards.

Our final card was done by request, a Christmas card.  It was this card that got the biggest WOW at both classes.  It wasn't because of the card itself but because of the new product I showed on this card, a product that is just FABULOUS!!!  The minute I showed it to my friends at both classes, they reacted with a big "WOW" something that demonstrators get really encouraged about when they hear it.  My Saturday class was SO cute I told them, "wait, I need to capture this moment, can you please do what you just did again, so I can get a picture" and this was the result.

I LOVE cheers of joy from Happy Stampers who are excited about our newest products!

Well here is the card that features the new FABULOUS foil acetate.  I'm not just saying the word fabulous because that is what I think about it but it literally is called FABULOUS FOIL.

This product is one of those that is hard to appreciate its beauty unless you see it in person.  It is so lovely and the thing I like best is one side is gold and the other side silver.  I attached it to the red card stock using two glue dots that I strategically placed under the pattern to avoid being noticeable.

This set, Peace This Christmas is available now as well as this beautiful Holly embossing folder.   This card would be a simple card to start working on now so that you'll be ahead of the game this Holiday Season.

I LOVED the Fabulous foil acetate so much that I created two birthday cards with it that I will feature on my blog this week and at the end of the week I will be giving away a 6 x 6 sampler pack of this beautiful paper by way of a blog candy drawing.  To enter just make a comment on this post or any of the next two birthday posts that will feature this beautiful product.

To comment on my blog scroll past the section at the bottom of my posts that show the product used and click on the word "comment".  I will draw a name from all the comments received this week on this post or any comments on my next two birthday card posts and will choose a winner to receive the acetate at the end of the week.

Thank you for stopping by to hear about my July Stamp A Stack class.  I hope you liked the projects and were inspired to get out your stamps and create some beautiful projects of your own this week.

Until next time, Happy Stampin'
