Formula One Technique

Today I want to share with you a quick method for putting a set of cards together.  I call it my Formula One Technique.  This is the technique I use when I am short on time and want to create cards that are fast to make.  This technique works best when using any of our fabulous Stampin' Up! Designer Series Papers.  It is also the perfect technique for creating coordinating sets of cards.

Formula One technique is basically a color blocking technique.  I used it to create the base layer on this entire set of cards.

Naturally Eclectic Cards - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Naturally Eclectic Cards - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Do you see that all of the base layers of these cards have the same dimensions?  Here are the measurements for the Formula One technique.

Designer Series Paper - 3 x 5 1/4  Solid Card Stock - 1 x 5 1/4

Just take a standard size card, that has been folded in half to the top layer is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  Then add the Formula One Dimensions as described above.  For the focal point use any size card stock depending on what stamp you use to finish your card.  The Formula One is a fast way to create the base layer on cards.

These cards were created for a special event where I was highlighting our Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.

Here is a close up of each of the cards.

Oh So Eclectic Thank You Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The first card was created using a set that is a part of the Naturally Eclectic Suite called Oh So Eclectic.  I fussy cut a coordinating flower and embellished it with one of our gold faceted gems.  I just love these gems, this one works perfectly to add an dimension and texture to the front of this card.

The next card was created using the Happiest of Days stamp set.

The birthday gifts were colored with our Stampin' Write markers and Basic Rhinestone Jewels were added to the bows on each gift.

Card number three uses the cute jeweled piece of the Designer Series Paper.

I added a rhinestone to the center of a punched flower to embellish this fabulous fashionista who comes from the stamp set Beautiful You!

I changed direction on this butterfly card and put the one inch strip along the bottom front of this card.

Butterfly Basics Birthday Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Butterfly Basics Birthday Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

This is the only card that required a Big Shot because I used a framelit to cut out the Butterfly from Butterfly Basics Bundle so that it would look more three dimensional.

This technique is super simple and has made creating cards with Designer Series Paper so simple, quick and fun.

Next time you open up a pack of Designer Paper why not try and follow this formula to create your base layers and before you know it you'll be creating some Formula One cards that are FAST and FABULOUS!

Happy Stampin'

Cindy

Beautiful Lynne

The other day Lynne called and asked if I wanted to go shopping with her.  Lynne was shopping for a dress for a special event.  I think she called me because she knows I love to shop, especially with friends.   Lynne is very fashionable, she always dresses in neutral colors such as black, navy and cream.  I had little bit of fun as I pulled dresses for her, trying to convince her to try Cranberry or Plum or perhaps something printed.

Even though the shopping trip wasn't a success for Lynne, we made lots of fun memories such as when we tried on the same printed dress.  We are all smiles in this Matchy-Matchy moment.

It was funny when she teased me, like my friend Karin does about my habit of not taking off my jeans when trying on dresses.  If I like a dress WITH my jeans on, then I'll take them off to make my final decision, but I have to like it enough to make the effort.  That's a part of my speed shopping expertise.

As we prepared to celebrate Lynne's birthday we asked her where she'd like to have dinner.  Lynne said to surprise her with someplace new that we had not been before.  We chose Ethiopian Love in China Town.

I had been there once and really liked it.  What I didn't know is that on Friday nights, which is when we went, they have live music.  The restaurant has great atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious food.

This was our dinner.  Just look at this huge plate next to the tiny birthday girl.  Most of these dishes are vegetarian with the exception of a lamb stew.  The bread is called injera.  It is light and spongy.  You pick it up, unroll it, grab something from this plate and eat it, with your right hand of course!  Everything was delicious.

At the end of our meal, we gave Lynne this card that I had made with the stamp set Beautiful You.

Can you see how I combined Lynne's favorite neutral colors to create this card?  All of the dresses and hats pictured here were fussy cut.  My favorite dress is the black glimmer paper one.  Of course I love the vanilla hat with the flower too.

The inside of the card had a very appropriate message!

It was another wonderful "ladies night out" celebrating our gorgeous friend Lynne.

At most restaurants we go to we end up getting kicked out in the most subtle ways because we stay too long.  We've had people sweep around our table, clear all our dishes and suggest several times "can I get you anything else"?.  We've even had people ask us to leave because they need our table!!!  At our last gathering the fire alarm mysteriously went off which meant we had to go.

Ethiopian Love was the FIRST place we went to that we didn't feel rushed, in fact as we were leaving around 10:00 pm, they were still seating people and taking orders!  Perhaps we have found the new perfect place for a relaxing late night celebration!

We took a photo as we normally do to remember this night.  Do you see that we all dressed in black in honor of our fashionista friend Lynne?  She joked as she got in the car that she was going to put on a bright patterned dress that evening to surprise us!!  That would have been funny.

It was a wonderful night out celebrating beautiful Lynne.  I am blessed to call her not only my shopping buddy, but also my sister and friend.

Happy Birthday Beautiful Lynne!

Fun and Fabulous

My monthly stamp a stack class is always so much fun.  I really enjoy having people come to my home for an afternoon of creativity, inspiration and fun.

Here are the cards we made at my March stamp a stack class.

Stamp A Stack Class - www.stampediwthaloha.com

This first card may look familiar to you if you read my blog post on March 21st.

The cute bunny focal point of this card is layered on top of one of our Stitched Shapes Framelits which is a product I featured at this class.

On the card I posted March 21st I had fussy cut the carrots.   However, after borrowing the coordinating framelits from a friend, I decided that I needed to order them and I'm so glad I did.

The next card featured the Balloon Adventures stamp set.  Although there are lots of cute stamps in this set, I absolutely love the cloud stamp.  That is why I covered the back of this Marina Mist card stock with a whole bunch of fluffy clouds.

I LOVE the sentiment on this card!  Did you know that when you send an unexpected card and note to someone who is down you are sure to lift their spirits?

It is always such a wonderful gesture to take the time to let someone know you care and I think the best way to do that is in a hand stamped card.

The next card featured the stamp set Special Reason with the coordinating framelits.

I only used a square of gold foil to add a shiny frame to this beautifully detailed cut out flower.  The words on this card were from one of our saleabration stamps called Avant Garden.

The final card of the bunch was this Beautiful You Birthday card.  This card showed the paper piecing technique.  This technique is done when you take an outline image and stamp it onto patterned paper.  You then cut it out and place it on top of the same image that has been stamped somewhere else.  This technique is perfect for the Beautiful You stamp set as shown in the sample below.  In just minutes, you can create a whole closet full of patterned dresses in various colors for this stamped fashionista.

I used the Soft Subtles Paper stack to create a variety of colorful dresses so that each of my guests were able to make this same card using three different color schemes.

I think everyone had a blast making this card, it was definitely a class favorite.  I asked the ladies, which color did they like the most?  Everyone choose a different one.  I guess they all look nice.  It made me think that when you find a dress that fits as nicely as this one does then you should buy it in every color, at least thats what I would do!  So I guess that rule applies when stamping dresses for this beautiful fashionista too!

 Do you recognize these colors?

The first one is Sweet Sugar Plum, the Second one Peek A Book Peach and the third one Flirty Flamingo?  These are all a part of our 2015-2017 In Color Collection.  I think all three of them are beautiful!

Speaking of a beautiful trio, I'm so glad these wonderful ladies were able to stamp with me this month.

At the end of class on Sunday, Pam received a text message from her twin daughters.  They were at a friends house getting ready for the prom.    Earlier that week I had met with them to help design a simple card to help number their tables.  They were so kind to send a picture from the event and show me how the cards coordinated with their table decor and theme.

They did all the work and I think the table looks beautiful.  Hopefully people noticed their hard work! I just noticed as I was uploading this picture that everyone shown here is on their phones!  I wonder if they are texting each other asking if they want to dance?

Pam's daughters looked SO beautiful.  I'm so happy they sent this picture to share with us.  These girls are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. They are growing up so fast!!!

We all enjoyed seeing their beautiful smiles and gorgeous dresses.

I'm not sure if it was their photo that inspired us or the fact we had been stamping dresses that day, or because I had been up since 3:30am because I was on worship team at church that morning but we were all a little giddy and decided to send a prom picture of our own back to the girls.

As you can see, we all really had a great time at this month's class.   Sharing creativity and inspiring others to create cards to spread aloha is one of my favorite things to do and its extra special when I get to do it with such fun and fabulous stamping sisters and friends.

Happy Birthday, Gorgeous

My son's girlfriend Joyce celebrated her 23rd birthday a few days ago.  Joyce is such a beautiful person inside and out and I just love her bright and beautiful smile!

Kalani and Joyce - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Kalani and Joyce - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Recently, Joyce has been really into beauty products.  She loves make up and has even been making You Tube videos to educate others on her favorite products and how to use them.  I love that she is taking something that she is passionate about and is using her knowledge to be an inspiration to others.

One of her favorite stores is Sephora, so her birthday card this year was designed after the Sephora gift card we bought to give her for her special day.

Here is the inside of the card I designed for her that shows what the Sephora gift card looks like.

The lips are SO cute, don't you think?.

The lip stamp is found in our new Sealed With Love Valentine's Day set.  I inked it up in Real Red and stamped a couple on the inside of the card as well as one on the envelope.

Here is the front of the card.

Beautiful You/Sealed With Love Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

Beautiful You/Sealed With Love Card - www.stampedwithaloha.com

The outside of the card starts with a folded piece of Basic Black card stock that is topped with a piece of striped paper from our Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I then cut a couple of 2" wide strips of card stock, one out of Basic Black and one out of Red Glimmer Paper and punched the end with the Triple Banner Punch.  I stapled these onto the front of the card and added two punched circles as the focal point.

The words "Happy Birthday Gorgeous" comes from the appropriately named Beautiful You stamp set.  I added some more Real Red lips next to the sentiment and  also a couple on the white stripes of the Designer Series Paper.

On the lips that are near the sentiment I added a thin layer of glue from the Fine Tip Glue pen and let it dry so that it would look like shiny lip gloss.  Finally, I added some jewel rhinestones as a finishing touch.

Joyce and I have been celebrating our birthday's together for the past 4 years since her birthday is just 2 days before mine.  So on Sunday night we went to Roy's in Ko'olina to celebrate.  It was there that I gave Joyce her birthday card and gift.

When Joyce opened it up, I could tell by her expression that she really liked the gift and card.

Yesterday Joyce texted to thank us again for the gift and to let us know she had already used it.  She also told me that she loved the card so much that she posted it to her Instagram account with this adorable picture below.

Joyce said that she doesn't normally wear bright red lipstick but this fun card inspired her to give it a try.  I think she looks adorable, don't you?

Happy Birthday, Gorgeous Joyce, it was fun to celebrate another special day with you!
