Alec is more than just an amazing friend to me, he is my ohana and one of the persons in my life I don't know what I'd do without.
I met Alec when I began to serve on the worship team at New Hope Leeward around 12 years ago. I had been in one of his classes at the church and saw right away that he was a super gifted teacher. However, I had no idea of what a tremendous leader he was until I had the opportunity to get to know him.
Serving under Alec's leadership gave me an overwhelming sense of joy because of the way he directed us, encouraged us and challenged us. Alec also is one of the funniest people I know and would often make us laugh until there were tears in our eyes or until I couldn't breathe, which happened quite often.!
In a very short time, I realized that this new season was going to be great.
But it wasn't just great, it was special. Alec taught us not only the priority of having a strong relationship with Christ but he taught us the importance of humility, love, unity and teamwork.
We rehearsed in my home and rehearsal didn't end after the music stopped. Alec taught us the value of building relationships with each other while we "broke bread" together, fellowshipping, eating, sharing, laughing sometimes until the wee hours of the morning.
With all of the quality time we shared, our team grew really close as brothers and sisters.
Then came the dreaded day Alec shared that God was calling him to help at our main campus and would be leaving our team. That was a hard day for me as especially because I would be the one asked to take his place.
This photo was taken on Alec's last Sunday at our Theater Campus.
This was the end of something really special and the start of a new and challenging season for me. Although I felt a great deal of fear and uncertainty, Alec continued to pour into my life and bless me with encouragement and support; always cheering me on and pushing me to grow.
Alec has not just been a great friend to me and my husband Derek, but he has been a wonderful Uncle to my kids.
Alec is the one who taught my son Kalani how to play guitar. Each note that I hear Kalani play today is a result of Alec's investment one summer many years ago. Alec not only taught Kalani guitar but he has supported him in many ways, even dressing up like Nacho Libre to host Kalani's Graduation fiesta.
And let's not forget the moment at that same party when he dressed up like Ricky Martin and challenged my husband Derek, who dressed as Fabio, to a dance off. That moment will forever be etched in my mind because as you can see from the photo below, they really gave it their all.
Alec has also been there to support my daughter Jessica as a loving Uncle. Just last week he spoke to words of encouragement to her when she was having a challenging day.
Alec and Jess also talk a lot about their favorite pod casts and authors, Tim Keller being one of them.
I'm so glad that my kids are blessed with someone like Alec who really cares about their well being and looks out for them.
One of the greatest blessings of knowing Alec for me is that through Alec I got to meet one of my best friends, his wife Lynne.
She is as sweet and beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside..
Well, all of this brotherly love and a trip down memory lane has come up about Alec because he just celebrated his birthday.
Throughout the year he often hints in subtle ways about his favorite gift; Amazon gift cards. So when it came to creating his birthday card I wanted to create a card and gift in one and this is what I came up with.
This card uses our latest Stampin' Up! products from our Urban Underground suite on pages 46 and 47 of our new Occasions catalog.
To create this card I cut two standard cards out of vanilla card stock and glued them together to form one long card with folding panels. I layered several different pieces of the Urban Underground specialty Designer Series Paper on them.
The sentiment stamp comes from the set Big On Birthdays and I adorned the front with a metal star from our Urban Underground Embellishments. This is one of my favorite new embellishments for masculine cards.
I took some other images from the Big on Birthdays stamp set and the Cool Treats stamp set and cut up the letters to coordinate with the 3 Amazon cards I put inside. The message inside the card was simple, "Happy Birthday Alec". So I positioned the cut up letters so the message would appear to my Amazon Card loving friend Alec, in a fun and creative way.
I really enjoy creating cards for friends that are personalized and hopefully make them know how much they are loved and appreciated.
I know this card made Alec smile.
I know creating the card and writing this post made me grateful that my life has been so abundantly blessed by his friendship which is truly a gift.
Happy Birthday Twin Brother, Loving Uncle and Amazing Friend, we are all truly grateful for you.
