On Friday night I was blessed to go to a birthday dinner at the beautiful Kahala hotel to celebrate my friend Karin's 50th Birthday.
Karin's husband Jay made all the arraignments for this special celebration so we weren't quiet sure of what to expect. We just know that when we usually go out we normally lose track of time and end up being there until they bring the broom out and begin to sweep around us!
When we arrived at the Plumeria Cafe we sat at our table with four chairs and immediately though of how much we missed Lynn not being with us. This was the first of our annual birthday nights out since she moved away. We thought of her often and she was really missed.
Shortly after being seated, our server delivered gift bags and logo umbrellas for all of us. The gift bags were filled with the most delicious beautifully wrapped treats and the umbrellas were really nice with the hotel logo on them.
These were unexpected surprises that Jay had arranged for us in advance! What a blessing!
Dinner was fantastic. We chatted and shared and visited the buffet a few times and without even realizing it the restaurant which had been really packed with guests was now quiet and we once again sat alone realizing that it was probably time for us to go, The only problem is we hadn't given Karin her gift yet, so we decided to relocate to another area in the hotel.
We ended up in the lobby where we sat on a comfortable couch admiring all the beautiful flowers and decor all around us. It was there that we gave Karin her birthday gift and card.
Cindy had wrapped Karin's gift in this pretty blue and gold wrapping paper so I designed a card to match using Stampin' Up! products.
This card is a combination of Night of Navy, Whisper White and Gold Foil Sheets. I made the beautiful shiny swirls with the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits and added gold sequins for added shine. The sentiment comes from Here's To Cheer's stamp set which is a new set in our Holiday Catalog and made for the perfect focal point for the front of Karin's card.
I made the inside of the card pop up and that is where I highlighted her Milestone age of 50 by cutting out that number out of a gold foil sheet with the Large Number Framelits.
I love the challenge of making cards to match something. This card in Navy and Gold not only matched the gift wrap but it also matched Karin's milestone birthday gift, a Navy and Gold Coach purse and wallet.
We stayed in the lobby chatting and enjoying the atmosphere. There was even live music playing nearby. It was starting to get late and a hotel employee walked over to us but not to ask us to leave, instead he was carrying bottles of water for each one of us and we were extremely blessed by his kindness and generosity to us.
Around midnight a guy with a broom did appear and as he swept the lobby we just laughed as another night out was complete with our tradition of staying there until the broom comes out.
I am so grateful to Jay for arranging such a wonderful celebration. It was a great night in honor of Karin whom I am blessed to call my sister and friend.
Happy Birthday Karin! I hope you enjoyed every minute of your amazing milestone celebration!
