Yesterday my "In-Law's" arrived in Honolulu. It has been 2 years since their last visit and it is so nice to have them here. Since we live so many miles apart we don't often get to celebrate Holidays and Birthdays together so we took advantage of it being just a few days past Father's Day and told Papa we'd celebrate with him on the day he arrived.
We took him to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate special occasions, Roy's, Kapolei.
When I make cards for people I like to think about them and customize them as much as possible. So in creating this card for Papa, I started to think about him.
First, he is a loving husband and Father of 3 boys, all whose names begin with the letter D. He is a Pastor and mighty man of God who loves on people like a gentle giant always making them feel special. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing and if he's not out doing that he's sitting in his favorite lounge chair reading magazines about those same activities. He drives a REALLY Big truck that Grandma Baughman almost needs a step stool to get into! He loves John Wayne movies and did I mention he actually enjoys going shopping?
Here is the card I created with him in mind.
This card represents the good ole days when Papa would go fishing with his three boys. I also made the boat shiny by using silver foil paper and textured it using our simply score board. Our new Seaside embossing folder was perfect for adding wave like texture for the fish to swim in.
I went a little "overboard" (a term I probably shouldn't have used while writing about fishing) with the framelits but there were so many cute ones to choose from in this bundle! Besides, I was only making ONE of these cards so, why not?
The inside of the card has an adorable sentiment that reads, "wishing you a day full of sunshine and a lake full of fish". And of course I used a glue dot to attach this Cabela's gift card so Papa could SHOP to his hearts content.
All in all we had a wonderful first night together and belated Father's Day celebration. It was such a great night and its only day one of their visit. I know we will have a lot of fun adventures and make new memories while they are both here.
Happy Belated Father's Day to my wonderful Dad in law! Thank you for being such a wonderful example of someone who loves and serves others with a great heart and sense of humor. I'm glad you're here in Hawaii and glad that tomorrow we are going fish.... oops I meant going SHOPPING!!!! Yay!!!
