Greetings from Washington State. I am here celebrating my 28th wedding anniversary with my husband. One of the perks to being here, besides attending the Seahawks game we will go to tomorrow night, is that I get to spend time with friends and family. In fact, I came out here a little early to do just that.
One of my best friends Lynn moved here a few months ago and it has been painful that she now lives so far away. So setting aside some time to be with her was something I've been really looking forward to.
Just prior to me leaving for this trip, I had my stamp a stack class. Many of Lynn's former neighbors began attending class at my house because it was formerly hosted at her house. As I stamped with these wonderful ladies last week I told them that I would be seeing Lynn. They all said things like, "give her a hug from me", "tell her we miss her" and I even got a kiss on the cheek from Bea to pass on to her. They all wanted her know how much she was loved and missed.
I thought to myself what can I do to share all this love with Lynn, so I grabbed one of my favorite cards that Jodi had created and given to me and told the ladies that they should sign it. That way I could bring it to Lynn to brighten her day and they all thought this was a great idea!
The sentiment on Jodi's adorable punch art card said, "sending smiles" which is a cute stamp sentiment that comes from the Greatest Greetings stamp set. Instructions to create this fun card can be found on Jodi's blog, The Stamping Owl.
As the ladies thought of Lynn the room brightened with their wonderful smiles.
I could feel the love they had for Lynn and how much they treasured her.
When I went to hand Kerry the card she smiled and said, "so what does this card say?"
Kerry is so funny. She made it clear from the day I met her that she doesn't like corny cards because she and her family send funny cards. I knew Lynn would have laughed to hear Kerry's comment since Lynn is very familiar with the types of cards Kerry likes. So I quickly reproduced a card that I wouldn't normally make but I had seen this idea several times before and knew it would fit the exact type of Kerry card that would make Lynn smile.
Suddenly the sweet cupcake stamp set, is not so sweet. But this use of it definitely shows the versatility of our stamps when we think outside the box.
Well, I arrived in Washington State and a few days ago and I met up with Lynn at the perfect place, mid point between where she lives and where I was staying, the Malby Cafe.
I ran up to her car and was greeted by her same beautiful smile that I have missed seeing these past few months.
We went inside and exchanged gifts, both pumpkin themed and sweet! We met this adorable girl who worked there and make our experience even more special and fun.
Her name was Marissa and when she saw my Trader Joes chocolate pumpkins she said, "are those for ME????" Marissa was such a delight and made our experience at the Maltby Cafe so wonderful. She is definitely gifted with a beautiful smile that brightened our already special day.
The Maltby cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in Washington State. I love going out to breakfast and theirs is one of the best I've ever had.
After breakfast I shared the cards I had brought with Lynn.
It was special to see her open it up and receive the messages from the ladies who miss her so.
Then I handed her the "Kerry card" and she reacted just as I expected.
And even a few tears.
We went for a drive and ended up in beautiful Historic downtown Snohomish where we enjoyed some shopping on First street where there are many cute boutiques.
Our time together was much shorter than I would have liked, but it was full of memories, smiles, laughter and the celebration of friendship and sisterhood that we will always share.
When it was time to say aloha we hugged and tears fell.
And I walked away feeling grateful that I have a sister who is hard to say goodbye to because our friendship and sisterhood is truly a blessing from above.
