It's no secret, I absolutely love Hawaii and feel blessed that it has been my home for almost 30 years. I love the beauty, the people, the warm weather, the fragrant flowers, the beautiful mountains, the beaches, the colors of the ocean but most of all the aloha spirit that is unlike any other place I've traveled.
One of the things we love to do is to share some of our favorite places on the island when people are visiting. Last week, we had the opportunity to spend the day with Sterling and Shelli Gardner. We've known them for several years but were so grateful to have made plans to set aside a day to spend with them.
When we tour, we can do a scenic tour or a foodie tour or a combination of both. We gave Sterling and Shelli a few options and they made a great choice, suggesting we start at Sweet E's, one of our favorite places to go for breakfast.
This stuffed blueberry cream cheese french toast is amazing. However, I usually get the vegetarian extreme mess (pictured on the right) but try to save some room for a bite or two of the yummy french toast. I highly recommend going to Sweet E's in Kilohana Square, but go early and know that you might have to wait cause its a local favorite and very popular.
We drove around the East side of the island, stopping at some of our favorite scenic points. Then we drove to Kailua Beach and showed them some places they might want to go back to on another day.
Of course, when in Kailua you HAVE to go to THE LOCAL. It was one of our MUST DO items on our tour schedule. It was great to be able to share this special treat with special friends.
Although it was a little bit overcast, it was still a beautiful day. Not just because of the scenery but because of the time we had together where we had lots of time to catch up, share stories and spend quality time together.
After driving around to the North Shore, another must stop on our list is Giovanni's Shrimp Truck. Isn't this an adorable picture of Sterling and Shelli? It was this picture that inspired the card I made to send to Sterling and Shelli this week.
This is a moving card. When you pull the tab at the top, a photo pops out from the top and bottom of the card at the same time. If you flip the card over, I used the back sides of the photos to write a message to Sterling and Shelli.
I love that I can use Stampin' Up! products to send a special note to brighten someones day and let them know how grateful I am for them.
Well, our day didn't go as we expected. Our next stop was going to be another highlight, Turtle Beach. However, as we arrived it started to downpour so we passed by and pointed it out to them so they could go back another day. We were then going to start our way back when this happened! TRAFFIC JAM! When it rains, traffic often slows. This was different. We were hardly moving. After inching our way along for almost an hour thinking it would clear, we learned there was a major accident ahead and the road home had been shut down. We felt terrible because we had promised to get Sterling and Shelli back, as they had plans that evening.
After making a phone call to change their plans, Shelli graciously told us not to worry as it was no problem. She suggested that rather than sit in traffic, we just hang out in Haleiwa to have dinner and to do some shopping. Shopping??? Did she say shopping???? Screech, the tires couldn't have turned more quickly as little did she know that she suggested one of my favorite things.
You know sometimes things don't always work out the way you planned.... sometimes they work out even better. We were grateful for a day we could share our home with special friends and hope although it didn't go as planned that they enjoyed it as much as we did.
