May 2015 will forever be a month to remember for me. It was a month for celebrations, reunions, sharing the aloha spirit and making a difference. Here are some of the highlights:
I was inspired to host an event called Birthday and Blessings in honor of my dear friend Kim (pictured above) who had recently been battling breast cancer. Kim and I became friends and life long "sisters" back in 2003 when she and I along with 5 other amazing women served together on the Stampin' Up! advisory board. Kim and I instantly bonded the first day we spent time together and have managed to keep in touch over the years. Although we've talked on the phone, Kim and I hadn't seen each other in over 6 years so imagine our excitement when we found out that the 2015 incentive trip was going to be in Waikiki and Kim's business was picking up so things looked very promising for her being able to earn the trip. Well, life has its way of bringing us unexpected storms and for Kim her storm was breast cancer. Her diagnoses and following treatment plan prevented her from reaching her goal of achieving the Grand Vacation she had hoped for. At that same time I had inured my back and was wondering if I was going to push myself to earn an incentive trip that would take place just 30 minutes from my home but when I learned about Kim's situation, I quickly was motivated to earn the trip so that I could bless my friend and bring her as my guest. Psalm 37:5 says: Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him and he WILL help you! So that is exactly what I did and I was so blessed to be able to earn the incentive trip and tell my friend Kim to focus on getting well because in May she would be invited to be my guest on the 2015 Stampin' Up! Grand Vacation in Hawaii.
At that same time I shared my goal with my very dear friend Annie. Annie is not only a good friend but she is a mentor, an encourager, a motivator and a wonderful event planner. Annie has inspired and "pushed" me lovingly through the years to help me to learn and grow to do things I never thought I could. Annie who also has faced her own health challenges such as Kim has a heart for the American Cancer Society and is compassionate about making a difference by supporting not only them but many local non-profit organizations and charities.
We brainstormed together how we could honor Kim and help others and also bless so many of the creative people in Hawaii by creating an event where we could feature some amazing talent who would be coming to Hawaii for the Grand Vacation. So we put our heads together, prayed a lot and the vision for our Birthday and Blessings Event began.Next, we went to our amazing team of helpers who always work so hard to not only help us at the event but put in many hours prior to the event to ensure its success. I feel TREMENDOUSLY blessed to have each one of them in my life and to have the opportunity to work with such amazing, talented, good hearted people! Having Chris join us on the camera was the icing on the birthday cake and we hope to lovingly persuade him to join us every time we have an event such as this.
We then spoke with demonstrator friends, inviting them to be our special guests and were blown away when Pam Morgan, Linda Bauwin, Ronda Wade and Dawn Griffith all agreed to be a part! I am just tearing up now (and thats a big deal for me who rarely is brought to tears) just thinking about how special it was to have ALL of them come to support this event.
At our event we raised money for the Hope Lodge which is currently being built in Nuuanu. You can learn all about this wonderful place that will bless the lives of so many facing unexpected challenges. https://hphawaii.wordpress.com/hopelodge-hawaii/
Guest who attended our event brought cards to donate and my very talented and creative friend Cindy (who always avoids the cameras) made this beautiful cake box that we filled with cards to donate to Hope Lodge. We had a great assistant in Rich Griffith who went around the room and collected cards from all our guests. This box was actually quite heavy and was completely filled to the top with beautiful hand stamped cards. A special mahalo to all who donated so generously!!!
We had such an enjoyable day together and very soon thanks to Chris, I'll be uploading a video so you can get a glimpse of what all took place at this very special event. Thank you SO much to all who attended this event from Michigan, Tennessee, Utah, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Ohio, Oahu, Big Island, Maui and even Australia!!! I hope you were blessed by the days inspiration, creativity and sharing. We were blessed to have you there!
